On Step 6 of installing vB 3.6.0 Beta 3 I got this:

XML Error: %1$s at Line %2$s

1. Attempted to reinstall several times same error occured.

2. Bypassed to Step 7; while it worked when logging into the ACP it became clear that most of the phrases were unreadable. I then uploaded the Language XML file, refreshed the ACP and then the phrases worked. (Workable but not an idea solution)

3. Cleared DB and attempted a fresh install and same error at Step 6.

4. Installed vB 3.5.4 on a clean DB and no errors in any of the steps.

-------------

*While I haven't tested any of the other Beta versions and the fact that installations of previous versions worked flawlessly, could this be a possible 3.6.0 Beta bug?

The file was not uploaded correctly. Reupload all the original vB non-image files (except install.php). Make sure you upload these in ASCII format and overwrite the ones on the server.

Thanks for your reply, Steve.

I followed your instructions, switched Smartftp's auto to ASCII mode, attempted to reinstall and the same error (on Step 6) occured.

*I did the same procedure, after this last 3.6.0 Beta attempt, with 3.5.4 again (just to be certain) and the version installed fine. I didn't see anything in the phpinfo that strikes me as a potential problem.

Hmmm...I don't know then. I would have bet it was a bad file upload or that your PHP is not compiled with XML support.

For the XML support this is what's detailed in the phpinfo:

PHP 4.4.2
mySQL 4.1.19-standard

XML Support: active
XML Namespace Support: active
EXPAT Version: 1.95.6

I hope this information helps.

*I could try to install the lower Beta versions.
