Which SUSE releases are affected? Is this on just the x86 packages? I'm running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 for POWER and I don't see any problems.
Is this something that is affecting only vBulletin or is it a more pervasive security issue?

I'm sure you can find those answers either at SUSE's website or over at php.net.

It could affect any php application. You'll find the best feedback in the bug report that I filed with Novell. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=185516

Thanks. I can confirm it isn't an issue for SLES for IBM pSeries, iSeries or zSeries as of the latest update for each. Seems limited (if affecting 80% of the install base can be "limited") to the x86 world.
Thanks for posting a good explanation and test program when you opened the bug report. I can't believe their solution is to upgrade to PHP5. That was a totally unacceptable answer to give a software developer.
