I've read this board thoroughly and I guess I'm just missing the info I need.

We're currently using SMF RC2 by simply machines, but we've had troubles and are looking for a replacement.

We'd like to import the registered users and (hopefully) the posts.

My questions are:

a) Is this possible?

b) Can we pay someone to do this? :D

You can import your data from SMF.
The exact details of what is imported can be found here: http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_smf

We do not offer an official import service.
The import process is fairly painless and done by clicking buttons in the admin control panel. If you want to request an import, once you have purchased a license you can submit a ticket and it will be passed on to our staff who may be willing to contract it as a side job. The price would be dependant on the size of your forums.

Its fairly straight forward... I switched from SMF & imported with very little knowledge of vBulletin at the time..
One thing to note is that user passwords will need to be reset.

Do I need to reset passwords manually and one at a time?

Just set up an email to all users with a link for them to reset their passwords themselves. Its all done in one go. I think there is an example in the impex manual
