I know, weird question

One of my new clients has a site with an illegal licence.
I insisted to bring things to normal.
The issue is that can I shift from an illegal licence to a legal one on the same database? will it be an upgrade, a new install or what?

Simply overwriting the files with the legal files should work.

It is a 3.53 version, and the legal one would be 3.5.4.
Would this pose any problem?

that would be an upgrade ... if you overwrite the files like that, you need also run the uprade.php which should run just smoothly ..
