Check that localhost line in /etc/hosts is like:
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain other.names.of.machine ...
Not like:
127.0.0.1 name.of.the.machine localhost localhost.localdomain other.names.of.machine ...
It think it is quite safe to make the line just plain:
127.0.0.1 localhost

Check that localhost line in /etc/hosts is like:
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain other.names.of.machine ...
Not like:
127.0.0.1 name.of.the.machine localhost localhost.localdomain other.names.of.machine ...
It think it is quite safe to make the line just plain:
127.0.0.1 localhost
