Huge disaster upgrading!! Half of my options seem to be from my database and the other half from some crazy database I've never seen or heard of before!
I triple checked config.php and it's all my settings. phpMyAdmin has my correct database.
And yet ... going to the forum index shows:

And all of these crazy "test" forums ?! What did you guys hardcode somewhere pointing to your test server!!
I can't even enable my plugins because my vB Options shows them as enabled and the plugin page shows them as disabled.
This is a total disaster!

Disable the datastore filecache for now.

Better yet, replace includes/datastore/datastore_cache.php with:
<?php
### start options ###
$options = '';
### end options ###
### start bitfields ###
$bitfields = '';
### end bitfields ###
### start forumcache ###
$forumcache = '';
### end forumcache ###

$usergroupcache = '';
### end usergroupcache ###
### start stylecache ###
$stylecache = '';
### end stylecache ###
### start languagecache ###
$languagecache = '';
### end languagecache ###
### start products ###
$products = '';
### end products ###
### start pluginlist ###
$pluginlist = '';
### end pluginlist ###

Whew! That was a disaster recovered from! I thought that I was in the twilight zone.

You should be doing this on a test forum, not a live forum. :)

Well now it's too late! To be honest I didn't realize how big the upgrade was.

Ok here's my next disaster ...
How can I tell when one of my forums is one of my tutorial forums?
Right now the code I'm using
INNER JOIN " . TABLE_PREFIX . "forum AS forum ON (thread.forumid = forum.forumid AND forum.options & " . $vbulletin->bf_misc_forumoptions['tutorial'] . ") is broken, because it can't understand $vbulletin->bf_misc_forumoptions['tutorial']
I edited my bitfield XML file and from within the vB admin panel, specified the appropriate forums in the forum manager.

I just decided to give up. It's already 8:30 pm. It was VERY painless on my two dual core dual opterons to just revert back to my old 3.5 database and leave 3.6 for another day ... when it's outta beta.

We really did stipulate beta concerns in the full announcement. ;)

I was a little too overanxious and overeager for my own good.

Beta or not, it won't resolve your problem with custom modifications.
Did you go to "Rebuild Bitfields" after fiddling with the bitfield XML?

Best thing to have done if you couldn't wait was to uninstall or disable all hacks and mods and then install the new forum. Leave hacks off until it goes final.

Pretty much the same here- I upgraded from a 3.5.4 installation with 5 templates. After the upgrade, I had to remove my 3 custom styles and 2 plugins, and a whole new set of options had to be set.

Oops:eek:
The original plan was to modify all hacked files locally, then do the live upgrade, then upload all of my hacked files, then disable all plugins and slowly re-enable them one at a time (and reopen the site after the essential plugins have checked out), and then upgrade changed templates behind the scenes.
The problem came in when after the upgrade, all of the files were giving me database errors, and I was freaking out.
So ... do you mean to say that all I had to do was rebuild bitfields and I would have been back on schedule? I couldn't really think clearly because my site was closed and I was getting unexpected database errors on every page and I was freaking out - so I guess my plan wasn't a good one at all.
Live 'n' learn. Will definitely create a test forum the next time around.

I'm just so happy that my stupidity on display is getting the most views of any thread in this forum. :)

That's because we have all done it at one point in our vBulletin quest :D

When I read the announcement about 3.6 I figured it MUST be a huge upgrade. Therefore I decided to install a 2nd forum and make my modifications step by step. Once done, I will import (once IMPEX is up2date too) user and forums. I think (and hope) that I won't get through those nightmares :)

Impex or normal upgrade, .. i'd pick normal upgrade.
Just mirror your database and do a test upgrade, if it goes well you can run the live upgrade.

Fortunately, we're all making backups so if something goes wrong, we can just roll back, right?
Sure you lose a day of posts but at least the forum is back where it was.

If I didn't, I don't know what I would have done!

Yea, we have all been there at one time or another!
I have the latest beta install on my home PC (Localhost) I was going to place it on the live forum but with the issue I've been getting and reading about that just was not a viable option.

The reason I'd like to do it that way is simply that my forum is the first I ever did hence all changes are quite chaotic and I hardly know what I did and where and also this is upgraded from version 3.0something to every Beta, RC etc. etc. So I thought it might be a good idea to have once in a while a clean install ... Has IMPEX a certain disadvantage that you'd rather upgrade or is it simply the workload involved ?

You are going to lose any SE results you've had because all ids will change, and there is a considerable added workload in compared to a normal upgrade.

You loose all your forum structure and permissions + usergroup permissions for starters :)
