I am using the stock vB default style. But now that I think about it, I tried updating my test 3.5.4 to 3.6.0 Beta 1. Perhaps that's causing these issues? I'll try emptying the database and doing a fresh install.
Yup... That did it! A fresh install, and Beta 1 is working great for me!

On that same note, regarding the few bugs reported this afternoon after the beta release... the members' area download was just updated 3 min ago -- does the new download include the fixed bugs that were reported and fixed already today since the release, or just a fix for that specific bug mentioned in Kier's post?

As of when? It's weird... All of a sudden, I'm getting that weird bug where the RTE refuses to work. It worked perfectly 20 minutes ago. And now I can't seem to multi-quote, either. I keep getting a system message saying I've been making duplicate posts for the past five minutes. I'll post all of this in the bug reports forum later on. Oh well, it's only Beta 1. I'm sure Beta 2 will be a lot better.

We updated the entire package.
Set it up on my secret server as a new install just really to play with the RSS field - excellent excellent excellent :) Can't believe this got beta released so quick.
One thing I found difficult/niggly/annoying, is if a user tries to upload a signature image and it turns out to be too big, there is no back navigation and so having to use the browser back button. I know its niggly.
QUESTION: Just seen the bug - redownloaded minus images - do I need to do a whole new install or can I just upload a certain file or files to correct the error -
Finally if I have a question about rss feeds (not a bug) which forum do I post.
Thanks

We have created a bug tracker for those who think they've run into a bug.
We have created a few 3.6 related forums for errors and quick support.
Please note that 3.6.0 beta 1 is currently not supported. So backup first and try it out on a temporary but private test directory / server.
This thread is not to be used as a test-or support thread.
Please note that Kier has updated the Announcement with a new post explaining the 3.6.0 beta 1 .zip file being updated to fix an installation bug.

I'm still kinda lost on how to use the infractions thing. How do I disable and enable it? Etc etc
I have it set up so 3 points puts you under the banned settings. However I tested that on a Super Mod and it didnt work. Still kinda lost on how to use it or what exactly it does.
Product is looking great though.

Hi vBulletin Team,
the new featuers are looking very good but I have several questions/hints.
RSS System
Very good idea to implement this but be careful with two things
1. A RSS Feed forum can become very very big after a short time period.
I therefore have installed the 'Auto-Prune Threads' Hack which prunes threads out of a forum after X days.
2. If you click the NEW POSTS button you will also always get RSS Posts.
All my users hated this so I took off the RSS Forum from the NEW POSTS search. You should add an option for this also.
Automatic Discussion Thread
This is a hack from Andreas. Will you add this?
Un-Activated User Management
Very useful hack which should be a 3.6 feature. I hope it will find a way on the list.
Add Usergroup as Moderator
This adds the possibility to add a group as moderator to a forum.
This is phpBB standard and vBulletin should have this option also per default.
Thread Prefixes
Well what should I say. One of the most used hacks I guess and its very very useful. Will this be part of 3.6 also? I hope it.
Can you please give a statement to my points? :D

Have installed on test server and all went well so decided to take the plunge and install on live board and after some teething problems all looks good.
I especially like the rss feed robot poster.
I had a little difficulty getting the multi quote to work correctly infact the whole quote system was knacked but after some thought i remembered i had a pluigin installed that made usernames bold in a post i uninstalled this and lo and behold the quote system worked perfeckly
by and large i would have to say that this is a great enhancement.
I still have quite a few things to test yet but what i have done so far pleases me no end.........................

from the main forum page, if the last post is clicket, it returns that the post is not found it lands up to show: /forums/showthread.php?p=0#post0 this link.
where as if we navigate to the post from visiting the forum and then to topics the same post will show forums/showthread.php?t=25 and would show the post.
I noticed this thing to happen with older post created at forums before beta upgrade.
However I have subdreamer integrated with VB, which still shows up the the bad link.
What may be the reason?

My dedicated server was set up 3 years ago with Redhat 9, SQL 4.0.17 and PHP 4.2.2. I have 6 websites on the server some doing big traffic.
I can't upgrade PHP or SQL without changing to Fedor Core or the like because there aren't RPMs for Redhat 9 now that Redhat has changed to commercial status.
Being on an unmanaged dedicated server, I have resisted making a move because I don't want the setup headache's of setting up 6 websites from scratch.
Now, vB 3.6 comes out and it requires a PHP upgrade to 4.3.3. Ugh.
Oh well.

You could install a current PHP version from sources. But it would be better, to update the hole system to a newer distribution, like Fedora Core 5.

I don't think there's a clear answer; each beta takes as long as the developers deem necessary I believe.

I just don't like the fact that there is so much bloat lately, and really useful features are not being added.

{snip}
Un-Activated User Management
Very useful hack which should be a 3.6 feature. I hope it will find a way on the list.
{snip}
Thread Prefixes
Well what should I say. One of the most used hacks I guess and its very very useful. Will this be part of 3.6 also? I hope it.
Can you please give a statement to my points? :DI heartily endorse all these points! Why not bundle it in the product? The code has already been developed!

I think having the ability to manage thread prefixes (and suffixes...) built-in to the ACP would be a great idea.

This will be a real time saver for mods/admins
Automatically Remove Thread Redirects
"You may now optionally have thread redirects messages removed after a specified amount of time."
Is this an overall setting?
and/or
Can we set a time limit as per Thread Redirect?
Please say we can do both.
And the following would be a very useful navigational aid for one and all :)
Ability to give the Thread Redirect a custom Title (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=187924)

Most of the new features - except for the following:
- More things that can be product-ized (help items, crons etc.)
- Infractions System
are useless to me.
What should be added is my adv.plugin manager (which is actually a remake of Andreas's) - it's better than the unusable default one that vB has... also some of the hacks that I have released (adv. pm options, smilies in qr and qe, quick nick and quote in qr), as well as some of the hacks by others - such as thread categories are not what was added to 3.6...

Please set yourself up for priority support, and then post in the correct forums to ask for help. Thanks.

I would if I could, but I cant. It won't let me. Its a permissions error even though everything of mine is set up properly. As for priorty support, at this time I see no need to use it.
I use my banned permissions for the infractions, and people can still interact like they are regular members. As if the banned permissions arent being used.

Floris, check my Join Date. I've been here as long as you have so I do know this.
What I'm trying to say is that each redirect has to be evaluated on it's own for the amount of time it should remain.
And it is during the process of initiating a redirect that one is able to determine how long the redirect should remain, not in the default adminCP.
A Redirect is used for far more than ...
- Your post has been moved because you posted in the wrong forum
It is also used because ...
- Your post is relevant to this forum-X, but we have another forum -Y for addressing this specific topic.
Therefore we want this redirect to stay in Forum X so that others will know where to go to, ie, Forum Y regarding this topic.
Thread Redirect has a much greater value than being just an authoritarian tool for misplaced threads.
It also reduces the need for thread duplication by providing a redirect instead.
This is why I prefer to use the phrase Go to: ... instead of Moved:
But without being able to define where the thread has been redirect to, as has been suggested in this thread (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=187924), it just makes thread redirect a mod tool and not a user friendly navigational aid which it has the potential to become.

Thats the oddest thing. Its been like this since day 1. As well, whenever I recieve emails...be it support or announcements, they get sent to the primary one. In fact, that was the email addy (the registered one, which is also the primary one) all of my Vbulletin purchase info and member #, etc was sent to. Which I still have on file there. I dunno. I find it better and looks nicer than someone multiple posting. ;) I've had people have up to 5 posts just to respond to different people. When its nicer, faster, and cleaner to do it all in one post IMO. Having so many posts in succession could almost be considered spamming on my forum.

I agree! But I'm glad it's a feature in the new release -- clearly it's something many people want. And indeed, I can see some practical use for it, from time-to-time, in the kind of forum I operate. But this goes back to the comment someone made above: not all features are for all people. The point is to have the resources and options available, so that administrators can have potential in any number of areas.
It's quite easy to turn most things off, if they're not what one needs or wants in one's own setting!

I could see that as useful, MJM; but I think that would be a rather more complex way to code the feature. Though possibly not out of the realm of possibility for a template or plugin mod.
On the 'before you release it side', I would put a hand in for something less drastic: the dark black of the double-quotes and the plus-sign on the multiquote button jars fairly noticably with the softer tones of the default style. Perhaps soften the black in the default images for the 3.6 release to a grey that doesn't stand out quite as much?

Reported post creates new thread (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=83074)
Allow members to report own posts (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=82973)
Does 3.6 ver allow for members to report own posts?

Pretty sensible to wait for gold before running on a live site. I only installed it on a non public site to test out the new features and learn how to use them, not really to help look for bugs but glad I did because I feel its an opportunity to finally potentially give something back to this community. I guess the more people try them out the more chance bugs will be found and solved more quickly, which I suppose will speed up the release of gold ;) Not really sure about it speeding up the release of gold because I don't know the seriousness of the found bugs or the difficulty involved in fixing them but I too very much applaud the people finding and working on fixes :)

No, 3.6.0 beta 1 is not supported. 3.6.0 stable will be supported.
If you want to be on the safe side, don't use the beta versions on a live board.
That's what we recommend, to use it as a test, to help us find bugs and to get familiar with the system. But only run it on a live board if you know what you're doing and have the resources to quickly revert to the latest working version, or know how to fix bugs, etc. We never recommend to run beta software on a live site.

Only when you give an infraction in a post, it makes a thread in the forum I selected. When I give a infraction with the user profile it doesn't make a post in my modforum.
It seems so.
I think that when an infraction is given for a specific post then it works like the Report Bad Post button. But when one is given in general then no thread is created.
For me I feel it would keep everything in one place if any infraction created a thread in the specified forum.

If it still hasn't been included they have probably decided to not do this (or at least not in the current 3.x branch)The option to have the thread starter in it's own column should definitely be included. As it has been since vBulletin v1.0 (?), where the thread starter follows directly underneath the thread title, the forum just looks messy. I'm a professional designer, and this is of the only flaws with vBulletin in my perspective, and the manual way of fixing it is way too troublesome. I can only ask you once again to implement this as an option (and yes, I know this isn't the proper forum).

Agree.
An infraction is an infraction. No matter where it has been given.
Is this a bug or?

Why dont include AJAX in thread rating?

Mon 12th Jun '06, 9:31am
Hi Colin
Thanks for the reply, I have just been looking at that section again and have not seen anything. It states that the latest available is 3.5.4 and I cannot see anything else to indicate that I can get 3.6+
That's because we only show the latest stable. If your license has not expired you can click on the dropdown option box and select 3.6 from it.

Is there a list of performance improvements in 3.6? I did not upgrade to 3.5.x due to the increased resource usage on our "large" board. I want all the moderators to have access to all these new moderation features, but not at the expense of slowing us down.

I have upgraded a few big boards and they have noticed an improvement in performance. Of course, these are just personal experiences and no hard benchmarks.
There is no list of optimization or performance improvements.

Thanks...I think. :D I will wait and see what some of the "big board" users find when they upgrade to the final version. I recall 3.0 to 3.5 resulted in lower database usage, but http/php resource usage went up.

Mon 12th Jun '06, 12:42pm
One of the improvements that help performance, lower the load, is the nice way that AJAX is being used more. This only requires certain parts of code to be loaded and not whole pages to be re-rendered, etc.
and of course APC Support for the Datastore. Datastore information can now be stored in shared memory via APC (Alternative PHP Cache) for improved performance.
Oh, and perhaps some sites notice improvements due to Increased Performance when Handling Alternate Datastore Failures. When using an alternative datastore source (such as eAccelerator), vBulletin 3.6 includes increased performance over 3.5 when errors occur or invalid data. The new code will only cause one query in total to retrieve all necessary data instead of one query per piece of data.
And, Cache of Syndication Data (external.php)

Is there a page where the members can view all of the possible infractions, points associated with the infarctions, and what happens when they get too many??
Awareness is half the battle. :)

It works just like the reputation system, the site admin can best just create a sticky thread in his announcement forum explaining an overview. That's what most do with their site.

I hear ya. I think having a page just for that would be more effective than having it in a thread. Perhaps i could be added to the rules page. I'm sure someone will make a plug-in for it. :)

I would be inclined to say oversight rather than bug. I think the coders just didn't link the UserCP infractions to the "create new thread" system.
I guess they will probably amend that in the next release.
I am really hanging out for the Gold release of this as I am itching to upgrade so my staff and users can get their hands on the cool new features. :D

Just a thought:
The added features are nice, but not a "must have" for me. The added features will make it more complicated to use. I would rather have seen work on a CMS and/or Gallery, than adding more features to an already feature-rich application.

I don't think anything is a must have for me either, but nice to have the extra things, and for me the less I have to hack the better I feel. I'm not sure about making it more complicated because I think they are optional, we don't have to have multi quote and RSS feeds if we don't want.
I would agree about the cms and gallery, that would be nice, then subsequent upgrades would be far easier for me, I'm totally stupid when it comes to code so the more that is built in, the better for me. Those are the two biggest items I have beside the forum. It can sometimes take ages to get everything working together again, and I guess a lot depends on the time the author of those hacks has to work on things. Still I guess whatever the VB team add to the software, some of us are going to still want more. If vB5 had gallery and cms someone would probably be disappointed they didn't put in a articles thing or a arcade, I guess its up to us to keep that suggestions forum busy and hope that lots more things can be added in future versions. :)

If any, they will be announced with the next release. For now .. what's new is in the beta 2 announcement. The new release are mostly beta 1 bug fixes and improvements to the new features I think.

It depends on the amount of bugs etc, but after beta we will probably go for a release candidate, followed by a stable release. History shows we usually don't go from beta to stable just like that.
The beta period seems to go pretty good, I hope we won't go as far as 5 beta releases.

vBAdvanced is NOT an official vBulletin product, therefor it will not be supported, nor will we update our code to be compatible. vBAdvanced has to update their code themselves.

As Floris said vBadvanced CMPS is not a Jelsoft product nor is vBadvanced associated with Jelsoft. With that said... CMPS is close to being ready for the new 3.6 beta version and users should periodically check vBadvanced.com (http://www.vbadvanced.com) for updates/announcements regarding it. :)
