trying not to push my luck to far here, and i'm very aware that v2.0 has just been released and that v2.1 is "somerwhere" in the unknown future.

when can we expect to see some form of official statement regarding v2.1? i've noticed that john has started replying in the suggestions thread.

the reason i'm asking is that we're about to start planning some mayor hacking into vb and would like some info regarding v2.1 before we start. we posponed our project until now since v2.0 was to be a full rewrite of the code. now that we're about to start we would really like to know if v2.1 will be mainly a feature and functonality release or if we should expect alot of code rewriting.

i hope i'm not pushing it to far here and that it's possible for the vb team to give som kind of information :)

2.1 will be based on the 2.0 code base, but we can't give you any more detailed information than that, as we just don't know yet.

cant you wait at least a few months... its getting like UBB round here... updates everybloody 2 weeks :)

c'mon.. updates are nice, but for the majority of us it means totally rehacking our boards etc... not good

I think 2-3 months between releases is fair

etones you are only having to update often if you chose to be part of the beta process.

Also why do you think we would release v2.1 in a few weeks time? It would at the bare minimum be 2-3 months away.

maybe a comment from the deveolpers on using a tool like the one discussed here http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17958 would put people at ease?

if this tool is all it says it is than "rehacking" after an upgrade would be a dream. :)

i don't really mind when 2.1 is released as long as the current set of bugs in 2.0 get fixed and released for us :D

Does it matter? Didn't you want 2.0.0? Now you have it. You want 2.1 now? How long has it been since we got 2.0.0? not a month.
If I were John or James, I would yell "GiVe mE a BrEaKe"

A year ago John introduced me to Beyond Compare (http://www.scootersoftware.com). My life as a vB owner has never been the same since :D

Upgrading is _very_ easy with that tool at hand, and I just migrate hacks from one version to the next (within the same version group, that is: upgrades from 1.1.x to 1.1.y, or upgrading from 2.x to 2.y) every time there's a new release. It takes me about 15 minutes and all hacks are in place :D

ahh.. sorry all.. dint mean to come away from this as a w*****r :)

My main reasons were a) give you guys a break... b) Give us chance to come up with some DECENT new features :)

I agree with Bira... I use Textpad and liberal comments to aid my upgrading.

It took me 15 minutes to upgrade from 2.0 RC3 to 2.0 Final.

when i compare 2 vb php files of the same name all the line numbers and stuff don't match

maybe Jelsoft's next manual addition is a visual guide to using Beyondcompare ?

Alternatively, you could try using a CVS implementation of some sort. I have no doubt that it would be a bit more tricky to set up , but it is very powerful.

Eva I'll write a Beyond Compare Users Guide for the vBulletin Owner, how about that? :D

I'll do it this weekend. With screen capture samples, and all. We're on? ;)

OT :) but eva you changed your avatar AGAIN! LOL I was just getting used to the penguin - I glanced at your post and then was surprised when Bira said "Eva I'll..." and I looked back and sure enough it was you! I like the little guy (baby Kermit, no?) but /me is having a bit of a time keeping up with your avatars. :)

John CVS is great! i would suggest that there should be an official CVS source for our vb needs in the members area.

why do i say this? simple, if i ran a CVS for vb i would want to share it w/the vb community. however, i would not want those w/out the license to access the CVS. i don't want that responsibility on my shoulders so i've not (yet) implemented vb into a CVS system...

anyway, enough rambling... you get the point!

There is an official CVS site where the developers can check code in and out.... however we haven't considered the need to open this to members. But a "member's only" way to share code is a nice idea.
