Does the lience used need to match up to the files?
Bit of a bizzare question i know but we have a backup of my friends site that we want to restore on a different domain temporailiy (he had his domain hijacked:eek:)
and i wanted to know if it mattered if it was the orginal licence used on the new domain (as i believe the files get tagged with the licence number) or wether it doesnt matter as long as we have a licence covering the new domain.

I think you need to update your URL in the vBulletin.com members area if you are transferring the license to another domain. Not sure, though, so wait till you get the official word. ;)

I have read the License Agreement and it does mention that the copy of vbulletin has to be on the domain he or she specified at that time.
That means he or she can also use the files on another domain.
Your friend will also have to update the link in the members area.
I'm sure your friend has done this but if not have him or her contact the host and inform them of the situation.
I would also recommend that your friend contact vBulletin and inform them.

As long as that domain has a license associated with it, it doesn't matter which files are used.
Be aware though, that if his license is invalid or any problems come up with his license, and he's using your files, your license could be affected as well.

It would be me using his files.
also i'll get him to make sure he contacts you to get his accout sorted out once hes got his pc back up and running.
hes told the domain registrar about his domain and they told him he needs to file a dispute with ICANN.
