    Free MySQL Hosting?

    Just wondering, is there anywhere who would let me place my mysql database on their server for free? My host supports asp, cfm, php, and sql, but not mysql(yet). Php seems to be the easiest language, and most php scripts require mysql. Any ideas?

    If they don't have MySQL then the chances are that the MySQL client hasn't been compiled into the PHP binary, either.

        http://www.spaceports.com - PHP, CGI and MySQL are available on a separate CGI-BIN server which can only be linked to from a Spaceports site. You apply for this after getting a standard server account, you also apply for a MySQL database separately. Support is offered at a very busy forum.

        http://www.portland.co.uk and http://www.port5.com - PHP, CGI and MySQL with no ads. Limited to 100 Mb transfer per month for free accounts.

        http://www.freedom2surf.net - CGI, PHP and PostgreSQL with no ads. You might possibly be able to convert this board to run with PostgreSQL. There are scripts available that do that sort of thing. I think they offer cheap paid hosting with MySQL, but I am not sure.

          I've got a new free webhost that support php and mysql..
          I found a great domain name for sale on Dan.com. Check it out!

          They don't offer domain hosting....but they do host subdomain hosting. "unlimited" space/bandwidth, cgi, php, mysql, etc Only thing bad about them is that they have banners....if you don't put the code in your html/shtml pages you'll get a popup. *shrug*

          They're ok
          Better than spaceports or f2s.

          Hope I could help someone...

            surecity does seem like the best bet, I've installed my new board there, but they seem to slow down quite a bit.
            When it isn't slowed down though, it goes incredibly fast. Kind of weird, but I'd go with them as opposed to spaceports, cause SP only gives you 10 MB, and its a nasty URL

              Lakerfan --
              did you install phpMyAdmin to create tables?? Or did you just install it like the manual says??

              What did you use for the server name?? Localhost? or yoursite.surecity.com ?? I didn't get any answers from the host in what it is. I tried installing phpmyadmin and I kept on getting errors.

              Can you give me some feedback?? Thanks!

                well, you shouldn't need to install phpMyAdmin when installing vB, thats for backups and stuff I believe.
                First of all, did you create a MySQL DB from the Control Center at surecity?
                If you did, then this is what you enter
                Code:
                $cfgServers[1]['host'] = 'localhost';
                $cfgServers[1]['port'] = '';
                $cfgServers[1]['adv_auth'] = false
                $cfgServers[1]['stduser'] = 'root'
                $cfgServers[1]['stdpass'] = ''
                $cfgServers[1]['user'] 'username_city':
                $cfgServers[1]['password'] = 'password';
                $cfgServers[1]['only_db'] = 'username_city';
                $cfgServers[1]['verbose'] = '';
                and its TheTakerFan

                  that's what I had....but I couldn't get the thing to work right. *shrug*

                    good luck
                    I don't see any other problems then, unless the DB wasn't created correctly for some reason, but I doubt it.

                        noone ever gets accepted by them, so don't waste your time.
                        I know many people with sites more than worthy, and I have seen many discussions about them at other boards, and noone has ever posted about being accepted.

                          Just wondering how you got vbulletin set up at surecity?? Did you change all the php instances to php3?? or what?

                          Just curious....
                          I think that what I'm going to have do... *sigh*

                          Thanks for the info!
