In many of the threads in this forum people measure thier load by the number of members online. What is the best time to set that variable?
If it is set too high does that cause a load problem?
Thanks

cookie time out has no performance effect at all only determines how accurate the number of users are online i.e
cookie time out of 3600 seconds and say every 15mins only 20 members actually logged in = ~ 80 users online reported
vs
cookie timeout of 900 seconds where 80 users logged in at the very same 5 minute interval and the remaining 10 mins no one was on the forums = still reports 80 users online
the latter example would on average be more server resource intensive than the former example
