At much vbulletin sites, the avatar feature is disabled, because of too much data-traffic. Is it possible to load your avatar from an other server, without uploading the avatar to their server, so that they will save some data-traffic?

that isn´t a good idea, cuz if the other server is down you don´t see the avatar.

Plus 99% of the free hosts will cancel the account hosting that avatar very quickly, and a good number of other sites have figured it out and disallowed hotlinking of graphics from their servers.

Well, when you use the [ img] tag, the image will be loaded from an other location, and will not be uploaded to their vbulletin server. I think it's not so difficult to use an avatar the same way.

Gathering of tweakers(http://gathering.tweakers.net) allows you to specify an url in your profile to your avatar. That way all users host their own avatars.

Afcourse this will have some security problems, but with a little thought those are bypassable.
