View Full Version : "Keep Attachments" box when deleting posts

Hello VB Staff and VB Coders,

I would like to make a suggestion or request regarding the "Keep Attachments Box" feature currently on Vbulletin if I may.

When an admin or moderator goes to delete a post it asks them if they want to keep the attachments or not by having them place a "check mark" in the box next to it where it says "Keep Attachments" if they want to keep the attachments.

Currently the default is set so that the box is always unchecked which means that by default it will NOT SAVE the attachments that are with the post. To me this is a bad practice or idea, why would you by default want to delete the attachments from the post? I would think that most admin's and mod's like myself would want to save their attachments until they are for sure that they want to delete the post in it's entirety, such as with the hard delete feature.

Anyway what I would like to make a suggestion or request on is to have the ability as an admin to go into the admin cp and be able to select an option to hide or not hide this "Keep Attachments" box from view by user groups, as well as selecting if the box should be checked by default or not. I guess this would be more for the soft delete feature, than the hard delete right?

I strongly feel that the default method of this regarding deleting any attachment(s) from their respective post is that the attachment(s) should ALWAYS remain with the post until the post is HARD deleted from the forums.

Or how about a better idea, how about we just get rid of this "Keep Attachments" feature altogether? This I think would be the best solution to this...

If you keep the post, you should keep the attachments. Bottom Line.

Thank you for your time reading this and I do hope you will consider making these changes for the next Vbulletin release.

This was due to reasons regarding the upload quota for users.

I wouldn't object to the default being changed to "yes". It's much easier to forget to check a box than to deliberately click.

What do you mean by this?

Scott is the upload quota still an issue? Also when you say "for users"; do the users have the ability to delete or keep the attachments? Just curious because I though this "Keep Attachments" box was only viewable to admins or moderators, am I missing something?

Scott thats better that you guys not willing to do anything at all, or a simple NO, I'll take it as It will help out alot.

Thanks

I think the problem was that soft deleted posts still counted as part of the users quota, though I'd have to check this.

It also was the problem that people were soft deleting and then restoring and the attachments were gone. This gives the admin the choice.

I agree 100%, get rid of it. As far as we can tell this has no useful function what so ever. :)

If getting rid of it completely is not an option, then at least let us admin's select what we want it to do through the admin cp such as hide or not hide, default of check box and etc, as mentioned in my first post.

But ideally like Andy agrees with me Scott and group, Just get rid of this feature altogether and save everyone the headache. :)

I think overall Vbulletin needs to give us superadmins more power on what we can change on your forums. The little things like this make the forum better, and if there was a page of options that we could change just by clicking that would be really great. Instead of having to use hacks or code it ourselves.

Hornstar,

Your hit the nail right on the head ! I couldnt have said it better myself.

Give us more control of enabling and disabling and hiding options and feature through the admin cp Vbulletin staff. Enough of the hacks.

Thank you

Doug

You have the power to modify your forums in this manner already.

Hacks are a part of life if you want non-standard features for your specific site, I really dont see why you dont like them. If done properly they work wondefully.
