View Full Version : Problems importing ubb.classic posts - page goes blank?

Hello,

I just purchased vbulletin, and am upgrading an old board from ubb.classic 6.3 using ImpEX. I have everything installed correctly I believe, I start the import without any problems, I can get the users, forums imported, and I can start the import of the actual posts.

The posts go fine for a while, then all of a sudden I just get a blank white screen, and I can no longer enter the import option (the screen stays blank and white).

I can manually load the help.php file from the impex folder, and I can clear everything there - then I can restart the import, but get stuck at the same point.

I lowered the posts per page to 7 (from 10) because I read on these forums that it may have been a memory problem.. it still did the same thing, although I don't know if it was at the same point or not.

Any suggestions as to what I could be doing wrong? The stuff I have read here I have done - I reinstalled impex clean, I ONLY have the ubb.classic folder installed in the systems folder, etc..

Thanks for any input!

Is there anything in the PHP error logs as to what its doing ?

I'm not sure to be honest, it's hard for me to get a connect to the machine it's running on - I can only get a ssh connection from home, and I am at work at the moment. That and I don't really know where to look for the error logs :)

A little more info, I was originally doing the import in firefox, where it failed twice. I did it in IE once, and instead of a blank page, I just get a "Page cannot be displayed" error now, about 15 minutes into the import of the posts (I chose "5" instead of "10" that time).

The machine it is running on remotely is pretty quick, with a gig of RAM.

Can you get the php.ini file and find out what the memory limit setting is ?

I can get to the file later once I'm at home, but can I find it anywhere on the CP for VB? I am looking at the "View PHP Info" area, and it does list this:

memory_limit 8M

8M under both master and global. Hope that's the number you're looking for, if not I'll get into the actual ini file when I'm home.

Edit: I guess I'm having this problem since it's set at 8M, the manual says the lower limit is 8M on small imports, 16M recommended - up towards 32-64M for medium imports. We have about 1,500 users on our boards, so I'll up that limit since the machine can handle it. Thanks!

For ubb.classic 9/10 its memory do to the amount of files that have to be opened and refrenced at one time, I would try 32-64 meg and give that a go.

Well the 32M thing fixed that part, but now I'm running into an error when trying to import the Private Messages.
ImpEx Database errormysql error: Invalid SQL:
INSERT INTO pm
(
pmtextid, userid, folderid, messageread, importpmid
)
VALUES
(
4,
6171,
!##NULL##!,
!##NULL##!,
1
)

mysql error: Column count doesn't match value count at row 1

When I try and do anything after that, I just get:

Which version of ImpEx are you using ? The latest ?

Yes I downloaded both the latest VB and ImpEX from this site last week. I tried installing both 100% clean and got the same exact error - I can skip the private messages but with 1,500 users and 100,000+ posts, people won't be all that happy.

Thank you for the support btw, much appreciated :)

If your site is accessible can you start a support ticket and ask for me, I'd like to see this in action so I can debug it and see why the default values aren't being removed, you won't have to skip the PM module.

I added a support ticket request, I'm at work so I can't access the server itself, but I can get into the admin page, etc. I'm trying to clean up the existing import so it can be started fresh again, but removing the forums by hand takes forever :)

If ImpEx added the forums, you can clean out a whole import with one click.

Yup, I know, but after that last import I did I went in and customized some stuff, so that option didn't work - I had to prune all the users (except admin) and forums by hand, it really wasn't as bad as I said it was ;)

As long as you don't remove the importid's it should work.

Ah, okay.. well I had cleared them so that answers that :(

Only ever remove the imports id's when an import is totally finished and you wish to import a 2nd board or you are happy that your import was a success and your site is up and running and you are doing some house keeping.

During the testing phase they are invaluable and ImpEx relies on them to know which data it imported and which it can delete.

Jerry, rather than starting a new thread, I thought I'd let you know I'm having the same problem. Except I didn't run into the PM import problem until after I imported about 2,000,000 posts. The error was identical. The PMs I was trying to import were from UBB 6.7.0 - very frustrating when you are that many hours into an import only to have it fail while trying to import PMs. I tried to delete the session and retry the PMs - except Impex wanted me to start all over again.

I ran out of time, had to bail on the import. What's the scoop on the PM import failure? I'd really like to only waste one more night trying to do this. Thanks :)

I can reproduce it here :( , and am working on it at the moment !

You don't have to restart, just wait till I've fixed the module, upload the new impex files and refresh the page, then wait for the module to end, then rerun it to clean out any imported errors and do a clean module run.

Excellent, glad to hear you're working on it :)

I have no choice but to start over, I run a very busy forum - as soon as one person makes one post or one new person registers, I'd have to redo the import again anyway.

Please post here when you get the new Impex finished so I can download it - I'd like to give it another shot ASAP :)

Thanks for fixing this, it works great now :)

One more question that might be stupid - after the import, all of my threads on the board are locked.. is that a setting I missed somewhere, or can I do a mass unlock?

Run this SQL :

UPDATE thread SET open = 1 WHERE open = 0;

Worked like a charm, all threads now open. Jerry you are slowly becoming my hero :P
