You using plesk, ensim control panel ? do you need innodb tables ?

1. Upgrade MySQL server to 4.1.18 http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=175163
2. Upgrade PHP to 4.4.2 if you use phpadsnew make sure to update to phpadsnew 2.0.7 to work with PHP 4.4.1/4.4.2
3. Edit /etc/my.cnf and place the following mysql server settings in /etc/my.cnf and restart mysql server afterwards

4. Install APC Cache lastest version from http://pecl.php.net/package/APC. Read install guide at http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=165367 - please remove Zend Optimizer from php.ini before installing APC Cache

5. If you just upgraded to vB 3.5.x try to disable these 4 options:

I'm on Plesk 7.5.4.
I'll upgrade PHP and MySQL this weekend, when demand isn't high.
I'm not really sure what innodb does, but I haven't needed it in the past 3 years. What circumstances would I need it under?

I'll get the my.cnf reloaded right away.

APC Cache will have to wait till I get the latest PHP and MySQL installed.

I have never used the similar threads, but my users love the who's online info showing up at the bottom of the page. How much does it really hurt to have them turned on? I imagine it's only one extra query, correct?

Thanks for the help. I'll get the big updates taken care of as soon as I can, and I'll post back in a couple days with a report.

for pesk it needs innodb so change you my.cnf to below instead and restart mysql server

Thanks, I got that my.cnf uploaded.

One problem, though: when I /etc/init.d/mysql stop, it comes back saying that it failed.
It's not really a problem as I can just killall mysqld, but it's kind of odd...

did you update mysql ??? could of broken plesk
