Hey folks, great to be moving to vbulletin... been looking at it for a few years and it just so happens out host is making some server upgrades and we will no longer be able to run ubb classic.

Our forums are located here http://www.scducks.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi WARNING: although nothing obscene is allowed the language is adult and not suitable for children.

Anyway the install of the forum went ok for me, other than the fact my dumb self downloaded on monday and installed night before last not realizing there was a new version issued in the meantime. Tried the upgrade but was not successful so I installed clean version.

Now to my problem. I uploaded the impex folder to the admincp folder... per the instructions I do not have an import/import choice in the control panel.......

so.... either as an idiot or genius I typed in my browser directly the addy for the impex folder and got a box that asked for my user # so I input it and got this error message.

ImpEx Database errormysql error: Link-ID == false, connect failed
mysql error:
mysql error number: 0
Date: Friday 24th of February 2006 09:32:03 PM
Database: vbulletin_forum
MySQL error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

Looks like it is not connecting to database.... so my questions are

where should the import link be in my control panel, under what heading? Was I ok to upload the impex folder to the admincp dir or should I have scraped the folder and just uploaded the files?

On the working vbull forum I edited the config file per our hosts inst and the "localhost" is the only wierd thing... for that reference I have to enter "mysql" and the forum works fine with that config.

When I downloaded the impex file I did not put in the( i can't remember what its called) the #/usr/bin thing as the current vbulleting forum works fine and I figued that choice was meant for new php forum and not old ubb/cgi.

Thanks in advance for your help.

These errors mean that the db info in your ImpExConfig.php file is wrong or the source databaase cannot be connected to. Double-check that info.

Will do, where should I find the import link in the control panel? If I get the config right... which I think it is but it must not be, will the import link show up then?

If you installed Impex correctly the Import option should be on the upper left hand side.

At the top above vBulletin Options, have you placed the cpnav_impex.xml file in the includes/xml dir ?

The impex folder should be on the same level as the admincp dir, not inside it.

Once ImpEx is installed correctly it will get the config infor for the target database from vBulletin's config file.

If you have installed vBulletin and its working you won't need to do that.

Thanks Jerry, I did put the impex folder in the admincp folder, so it should be a seperate folder under the /forums directory... my main dir? That seems to be the only error I have made based on your post.

BTW I did put the xml file in the includes folder.

Yes, 'impex' should be a subdirectory under your 'forums' directory.

Well I was up until about 5am eastern and still no luck, functioning board but import has me lost. Can someone point me to a link with fees for importing old board for me? I see under purchase the intall fee of $120 but says it does not include import. I normally would not give up this easy but I just don't have the time to keep going in circles right now.

We do not have an import service available at this time, but we are available for help and support if you need it. Fill out a support ticket at:

http://members.vbulletin.com/membersupport_contactform.php

Be sure to include the login info to your Admin CP, phpMyAdmin and FTP. Please also include a complete description of the problem.

Ok thanks, filling out ticket now but I do not understand something. I was in process of giving you my admin username and password to access admincp but after re-reading your post I don't know what phpmyadmin is? Is this different than admincp?

PhpMyAdmin is a MySQL database management tool. Most web hosts provide this as part of the web site management tools such as CPanel, Plesk or Ensim. Look for a link to SQL or MySQL Databases. If you can't find it I suggest you ask your host about this.

If for some reason they do not provide phpMyAdmin or an equivalent MySQL manager, then you can download and install phpMyAdmin yourself from this location:

http://www.phpmyadmin.net/

I hope I am not doing the wrong thing by posting a question as I have submitted it on a ticket to Steve who has been a great help all day, but just not sure of his hours and want to try import again tonight. I think this is an easy question for many users here and just happened to think if someone passing thru might know the answer.

In the first module the last path says

"Relative Path from vBulletin folder to UBB.Classic non-cgi folder"

In my attempt last night I apparantly did not see that I got a red x when I ran the module on this path. No failed imports indicated but again get the red x next to this path while module is running.

When I re-read the path I noticed the "from" part and that has me confused, all I input was the relative path to ubbclassic non-cgi folder but not "from" vbulletin folder.

Can someone explain the "from" part?

Search this forum for last two hours. Googled paths and found what I was looking for, disreguard last question. :D
