But, i'd like a host that lets YOU create/edit/delete the MySQL database. I hate having to call them or even worse, email them to keep asking to modify something.
And I'm not really sure which is better for vBulletin, a NT or UNIX server (guys?)

So, all in all..
Unix/NT host
preferably fast
atleast 40/50MB space
PHP & MySQL
and defenatly some kind of a control panel that lets you work with your MySQL db.

Thanks guys

I really like this host, but it's a bit on the expensive side :)

Is this for real?

It works for me :)

But I get 'too many connections' errors once in a while. It's not from my board (don't have more than 20 at a time yet), so the errors are coming from another user on this shared server.

I don't know how many sites share a server, so this could be a problem for a busy site.

Also, you do not have access to the server root, but you do get a pretty good webadmin site to handle a lot of your server needs.

It doesn't work for me. Looking to get off of Site5. Site has been down for HOURS - midday - no response from support.

The only control panel you need to work your database is phpMyAdmin. You unzip it into a directory, set the config to point to your database, use .htaccess to password protect the dir and that is it!

We use RackSpace.com -- they are (from their literature) the largest Red Hat Linux vendor on the planet, and they guarantee 99.99% uptime!

However, there have been recent problems with their internet backbone, somtimes we lose i-net connectivity for upwards of an hour -- this is totally unacceptable and they say they have had everything "fixed" as of today. I have noticed that our site response has been sluggish (and so has http://www.rackspace.com so I know it's not just us), so I may give them another call.

The great thing is, is that they have dedicated 24/7/365 toll-free support. It takes one or two rings and I'm right with a tech person. Give them the required info and tell them what you want done -- within an hour it's done!

The only thing I find bad is the way they charge out the ass for all of their services -- after a couple of months you've more than paid for the server -- I guess you're paying for someone to watch over it and a fat pipe (which isn't enough I guess?).

Oh yeah, they're dedicated servers and everything -- you have root access and a nice webmin web-based control panel for everything (users, mail, etc.) if you need it. No "sharing" or anything.
