Because you're out of this world :p

In no particular order:

Saddam, GWB, Ariel Sharon... after that I can't think of who else is in the fame of the day. Let's add Kier into there just for fun. He is the lead developer of the best forum software there is. :p

lol I can't believe the number of people saying Eminem.Only 2  Most of the world could give a crap about politics, money, etc. They do however care about Amiercan pop culture and considering that Eminem tours world wide, hes most likely more well known than say Bill Clinton.

You could probably add Britney Spears and 50 Cent to the list.

As well as the hundreds of other bands and artists who tour? ;)The ratio is even though. The artists I mentioned are the top artists in America, therefore, the top artists in the rest of the world as well.

Not necessarily. Hip-hop isn't very popular in some countries, so I doubt they've heard of Eminem, etc. Just because something is popular in the USA doesn't guarantee it's well known around the rest of the world.

George W Bush

Michael Schumacher

Would be my guess.

Tough question because obviously it depends both on media access and age group. I travel to remote areas, often very populated ones, and I am constantly amazed at how few people know the 'famous' people in the North and West. This said, I would say that today, taking into account most age groups and populations, I the most recognized are:

George W. Bush
Pope John Paul II (I know he's deceased, which is why I've put him as 1a)
Hu Jintao
Eminem
Kofi Hannan
Saddam or Brad Pitt :p
Okay, I have to get back to work now

You really don't know who they are? I can understand Andre Agassi (he's a tennis player, BTW), but Mohammed Ali? Not only was he arguably one of the greatest boxers of all time, but he also caused a great deal of controversy by being public about his conversion to Islam, which wasn't exactly the most popular move to make during the time.

Just got told off by wife and mother, big time. My corrected list of the five most important people in the world:

Mother
Wife
Mother when she was younger
Wife when she was younger
Wife when she picks up after me, tidies up my office space and buys my tofu."C'mon babe, let me back into the house. It's cold out here."

Its called globalization. Looking at the international MSN sites, every single music section features artists from America. Not trying to be arrogant, but just stating the fact that the world enjoys American Pop Culture.

That was totally uncalled for. And as an Asian myself, I take offense to this. A lot.

If you take offence on that, then why do you not complain to the Chinese goverment for creating such a virus? It was a man made problem that created this virus that will be a killer world wide. My girlfriend just told me that you must have thin skin, as she does not see the problem with what was posted? She from Fuzhou in the Fujian Province, must be more harden people on that side of the world. :) I am glad I did not poke fun on religious icon's, if I did would you burn cars, buildings and call for the death of a nation? ;)
