When people request chat are they talking about the ability to page a user by clicking on their name and then in separate window have a little chat?

That would be nice.

My board has been up for ~5 weeks now and people are liking it! Keep up the good work.

Yes, when people request chat, they are talking about a feature like aim, icq, yim. I know the lastest version of vb has this feature in the templates, all you have to do is change the code a little. Hope this helps

I think they are more likely talking about an integrated chat system, probably java-based and with neat little doo-dads like smileys and stuff...
