Hi there,

I am thinking of the possibility of purchasing vbulletin to use in my future website. I know vbulletin is a forum software, but I have heard there is a lot of hacks you can add into it.

The main use of my website, would be hosting a file library, I want users to be able to upload their files, and people to download them. I would also like to have a forum, so I can support my files, and 3rd party authors do the same with theirs.

So to keep it basic, I would like to know if there is a hack that would suit me, if so which one, where could I find information about it.

Of course if someone thinks this is not the best option I also would thank those type of comments.

And last thing, I think a friend of mine told me time back there was a portal software being developed by same guys of vbulletin. Is this correct? I have Googled, with no luck.

Best regards and Happy New Year.

There is the links and downloads (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91107&highlight=links) manager modification over at vbulletin.org (sister site) that should do what your looking for.

We haven't heard much news lately about an official vbulletin cms but there are a few other hacks available at vbulletin.org that may fit your needs.

Realize that they are not "hacks" anymore, but Plug-ins which you download and install. You might have to add a bit of HTML to a template or two, but hacking up the vBulletin source files is no longer required for most of the feature add-ons you can get at vBulletin.org. And these Plug-ins are preserved between versions of the software.
