Yes, Van Halen is a far better musician than Yngwie.

Nothing to be confused about :)
Spend some time on each of the support forums, read the questions people are asking and the support they are receiving, check the requirements of each software, and figure out which features would be important to your community.
That's the best way to determine the best software for you :)

Hey now, let's refrain from negative comments like "He's an idiot", etc. It's not very constructive and very rude. Talk about the product, not the people, okay? :)

I would kindly take offense to all references such as thisUBB has cleaner code than vB, thanks to its rewrite. Charles is the primary UBB coder now I believe and I am sure he has an opinion that UBB is the best little coded thing in the world. We have the opinion that vBulletin 2.0 is very well coded but isn't that argument a moot point in the end to you? You don't care what the code looks like as long as the software functions for you and achieves what you want it to do. Remember the last person's advice you should take is someone who gets paid by the company creating the software in question so don't listen to me and don't listen to Charles.
That being said you should simply join a few forums running each software and use them daily. You should soon come to a realization about which forum you prefer and that is the one you should buy. Both companies will be around in 2 years to support you.
Oh yeah and try to search for something using the search engine of each, perhaps that will speed your decision along ;)

I used UBB for months, and loved it, until I learned about vB and tried it for a client who bought it, I F*CKEN loved it! The main point that, I DIDN'T HAVE TO GO INTO MY FILES TO CUSTOMIZE IT! I hated that about UBB, and the fact vB is so much faster, and so much more. I really donno about what one is cleaner coded, but vB looks FINE to me, so I'm never going back!

Personally I'll stick with the winner, but then the ice cream shop has many flavors. If you want VB go for it, see ya when you get back!
A good discussion about the merits/ drawbacks of each type of software are healthy tho. I think you'll find ubb v6 measures up quite well in the coming months to any BBS software...
It's been proven that using vB, the database crashes with too much load
Now, Im not one for public bashing ;)
(But I will do it via eMail if anyone wants to hear my ramblings ;))

Here go ask at these forums see what other people just like you are buying and why.
The reason being is if you ask here, we are going to be a little biased. If you ask at ubbdev.com, they are going to be a little biased.
I could give you my experience but I assume it would be suspect because of who I am. So go check out the experiences of hundreds of people just like you.

My suggestion is to look around and do some research then make up your own mind.

I think the answer is there in the post.
but then I see that even the winner of UBBDEV contest of January (www.whoisvan.com) has chosen for Vbulletin
He's done a good job on his vB: http://www.bsboard.com/

Any reason why htmlforums.com is allowed to remove the vBulletin copyright notice?

We switched from UBB a long time ago to vB 1... 1? In all honestly, the database code was pretty bad (NO indexes to speak of, inappropriate primary keys, etc.) but it has come a long way (baby!). I am not going to give ubb a second (or a first for that matter) glance.

any ideas? You'd have to ask them.
Let's not make this a UBB vs Vb thread, okay? You seem very inquisitive about a so called "feud" but we'd prefer to leave them to their own business.
Please feel free to ask questions about the Vb product and features, we'd be more than happy to answer those!
