phpBB User import question?

I have imported a phpBB forum over to vb.

When I run a query to list all the users, there are two sets of users. Firstly the list i expected, and secondly a list of the same users with the prefix 'imported_'.

Is there some maintenence thing I have forgotten to do on this??

Also, all the posts in the forum are registered as the imported_username ??

Hi there,

I doubt it went wrong.

You have an existing vBulletin installation and then import data from another database.

The impex script won't "assume" that one username is exactly the same other user, or the posts are the same or the forums.. It imports these as new forums, new threads, new posts and new users.

There is an option to associate users before you import. And there is an option to import users into existing users, if the email address matches.

Then, if is a user named ALEX is already on the vB forum, and impex finds another ALEX, it will import it as imported_ALEX, this to avoid that posts from 2 different alex's are then belonging to one new alex.

The forums are imported as new forums.
And the usergroups are imported as new usergroups.

You can simply move users to the right usergroups, and move the threads to the right forum.

vBulletin also has a merge users feature so you can merge imported_alex with alex if they really are the same person.

As per manual of impex, you have to check usergroup- and forum permissions again after the import to make sure they are how you like them.

Then, when all that is done, you have completed the impex and you can open your forum again.

do we have to move the users 1 by 1 in order to give them the right permissions to post and such.
