View Full Version : Why hasn't vBulletin 2.x been discontinued?

Hello,
I was just wondering why Jelsoft continue to offer support and security updates for vBulletin 2x? Wouldn't it be better to discontinue it and focus primarily on your latest services? (In terms of support and development) Surely vBulletin would be able to provide a better quality service if they didn't have other out-dated services to support as well?

Too many people are still in the 2.x generations, Rich.

But isn't this their problem and not Jelsoft's? By keeping the support line open, it hardly encourages users to upgrade does it? vBulletin 2.x has been out of date for over a year now. I really don't see why Jelsoft should continue to support it. If users choose not to upgrade from 2.x to 3.5, I really think that this is their own problem. They have had over a year to upgrade.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- vB 2 OWNS vB3.
I hope Jelsoft always support vB2.

I think I remember Kier saying they will take away vBulletin 2.x support either when vB 3.6 or vB 4 is released... one of those two.

Because some people prefer vBulletin 2 over vBulletin 3?

I don't really see why vb3 is so much better in terms of options and feature and the new plug-in system rules.

Hi there,
We give legacy support for version 2, because we still offer version 2 stable for download. We do not developer version 2 anymore, but any new version out is to fix security issues. There are still quite some sites running version 2, but we hope with future versions of vBulletin we can discontinue v2 and focus on the latest stable.
We also no longer develop version 3.0, we only release security updates for it and provide legacy support.
This is not based on facts, but I personally suspect that over time we will drop support for v2.

As Floris has said, all research and devlopment now goes into the vB 3.5.x series. Only security fixes are released for the older, outdated versions.
