Hi there!

I am considering in buying a new raid for my server:
Should I buy 6x 15k 73gb drives or 3x 146gb 15k drives?

I want to build a raid5 for web/db hosting of vb.

What are your suggestions?

If you want to be using a raid5, then it makes more sense to use 6 smaller ones. You could even set 1 as a hotspare if the controller supports that.

raid 5 isn't that suited to vB use you'd be better off with raid 10 with 4 - 6 drives

I'd do two arrays with the 6 disks, a 2-disk mirrored array for the OS, and a 4-disk raid 1+0 array for database.

RAID-10 is the way to go.
