Just a superstition and maybe a later transfer of host.
Does vBulletin 3.5 work with Canaca (http://www.canaca.com/) Web hosting?
As I think they are the best hosts around for anything ;)

As long as they support PHP & MySQL, you should not have any problems installing vBulletin. PHP & MySQL is pretty much a standard with most hosts, though if in doubt, fire off an e-mail to their support department and inquire about their setup.
I'm sure you'd be able to install it. Normally, it is free hosting providers that limit such things, so I think you're safe :).

The best thing they are for is the space you get and for the price.
After a few months you will regret it as I and so have alot of other people, Support takes longer, and the downtime becomes regular as the 99.9% is just something to make them self look good.
But yes vb does work with it.

I was hosting with them and they were fine BUT at first we had an annoying internal 500 error but after working with there support dept they fixed it for us so it all was smooth.
That was until i asked them to up our attachment limit from 2 megs to 16 megs once they restarted the apache server the site went to error hell and i called there tech support a few times sent in email tickets and even got there tech person to come to our forums and make a few test posts so they could see the error them self’s and they insisted that the error was on our end and not there end so needless to say i moved to a new host and I could not be happier.
So to sum it up for you if you don’t mind going with the default php 2 Meg upload limit and really ****ty non English speaking tech support your fine with them but if you want to give users the ability to upload lets say mp3’s with out some soft of ftp access don’t go with them.
