The first time I tried to read this thread I got the following error message:
Parse error: parse error in /usr/local/etc/httpd/sites/vbulletin.com/htdocs/forum/admin/functions.php on line 1246
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: makelogincode() in /usr/local/etc/httpd/sites/vbulletin.com/htdocs/forum/global.php on line 293
However the second time I got through (obviously!)
In addition, I am no longer able to post in the 'Bugs' Forum although I have no problem in other forums. When I try to post in Bugs, I get the message that says I am not the registered user 'smachol', and that I should login again. Of course I can't clear my cookies and am not able to login again.

My board was successfully upgraded without any error.
Thanks.

That was just John re-uploading new versions of some code. Nothing to worry about.
From now on, the bugs forum is only open to new threads from the dev team. If you have a problem, post it in the Troubleshooting forum, and if we confirm that it's a bug, we will move it to the bugs forum, where anyone can reply.
We have had to do this in order to keep the bugs forum clear for confirmed bugs.

Super Moderator? Kier has a new title? Or is it just me?
Kier
Fri 11th May '01, 1:24am
John accidentally reset all the custom titles when he did a bit of usergroup juggling today... it'll be back to its proper title later on (when John wakes up - he's just gone to bed)

The announcement stated:
I have completely rewritten the FAQ for vBulletin (what you get when you click the FAQ button at the top of the page), so you will need to revert ALL your FAQ templates.
I have had a quick look, but can't find where the users access this new faq3-part... and so can't I take a look at it for my translation of it.
Anyone who can tell me some on this?

Then you have to revert your faq template to original, the third part of this page leads to faq3.
No problems upgrading, thx guys :D

Just upgraded to RC3 and no problem here with attaching images...
One suggestion that might be nice is for a "diff" of the templates that changes from one version to the other. Since I have a lot of template changes, it's a bit tough at times to see exactly what changed from the previous version when I look at the original...

I'm curious - why don't you like the back button? Mine works fine for getting back to the FAQ index page...

On behalf of Kier ( :D ) I resent that comment about the FAQ page. He spent a while rewriting everything so it made more sense and covered more topics. It's only gotten better.
That being said, there wasn't a link to go back in the old version of the FAQ anyway, so why is it just now "pretty bad"?

It's probably staring at right at me, but where are any links or buttons to the polls? I have been trying to figure this one out for three weeks...
tubedogg
Sat 12th May '01, 12:17am
Assuming you mean how do you start a poll, you do it by starting a new thread. Click the New Thread button, and then check the "poll" box towards the bottom of that page. It will take you to create a poll automatically after you have typed your message.

Sat 12th May '01, 2:07am
Thanks for the info on the poll. Been wondering that myself. What about the referer id url? Where do the users get that from?
It is turned on in the CP and I looked in the user profile and didn't see it.
Running RC2.
Thanks
Can't wait for gold either. :)

Thanks for the reply.
I guess what threw me off was that I noticed that some threads have stars on them. I was assuming that these threads were rated or had polls on them.
But when I go to post a reply on one of those threads, there is no place to rate it or nothing about a poll.
I have read the FAQ, but I am still unclear as to how these particular threads ever got the stars rating.
tubedogg
Sat 12th May '01, 2:20am
Referrals: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/misc.php?action=faq&page=2#referrals
When you upgrade to RC3, this is in the FAQ by default. There is also a section in the RC2 FAQ about it, however I'm not sure if it gives the link as well.
The stars are rating a thread. You'll see a little box to rate threads at the bottom-left (by default) of any thread page. When a thread has a poll in it, the icon is by default is a blue thing instead of the standard yellow icons.
cditty
Sat 12th May '01, 2:35am
Cool. Thanks. Little confusing for some users. Go here then click here for your referer url. Probably will just create a link and say something like, click here for your referer url.
Prob the easiest for all users.
Thanks again.

The thread, vBulletin 2.0 RELEASE CANDIDATE 2 Released, has stars by it, which I guess it means it can be rated. Yet I find nowhere that I can rate it myself.
I have clicked on Post Reply and there is nothing there. And I do not see any buttons anywhere on the existing replies to rate the thread.

Very bottom-left of the thread page, right above the next & previous thread links, not on the reply screen.

Let me understand how to upgrade... just unzip the zip file and copy everything in the upload/ folder over my old one? then go and run that upgrade8.php? (since i previously had RC2) or do i just run that upgrade8.php straight from the upload/ folder?
thanks
tubedogg
Sat 12th May '01, 2:51am
Unzip the zip file. Upload all of the files in the upload directory except the image files. Run upgrade8.php by going to it in your web browser:

dammit!
this is what im getting
Security alert! install.php still remains in the admin directory. This poses a security risk, so please delete them. You cannot access the control panel until you do.
This is the *only* thing im getting...
Ok - let me tell you what i did:
my forum is in /var/apache/htdocs/clan/forum
inside the "forum" folder are all the VB files and folders...like admin, images..etc.
i unzipped vbulletin2.zip into a temporary folder
then did cp -Rf /tmp/upload/* /var/apache/htdocs/clan/forum
then went into browser and pointed to
http://whatever/clan/forum/admin/upgrade8.php
and that's the message i got.
tubedogg
Sat 12th May '01, 3:03am
I'm going to take a shot in the dark here and tell you to delete install.php.
;)
It is a security risk, however I'm not quite sure what the big urgency to get it off the server is; they could just as easily (and do) tell you to afterwards.
Boris
Sat 12th May '01, 3:09am
yea i tried that too (i have a .tgz backup of the RC2 forum before my attempts to upgrade to RC3 so i can go back to RC2 quickly)
after i removed install.php i got the control pannel login screen when i refreshed that web address (upgrade8.php)... and under the login textbox where you put username and password it said something about Release Candidate 2 ...not 3
so it didnt do any upgrade... :(
tubedogg
Sat 12th May '01, 3:57am
Did you login and finish running upgrade8.php? If you are getting that message upgrade8.php hasn't done anything yet meaning you are still running RC2.

Hello other community members and whole VB team!
I have a question: will new version of VB (RC4 or 2.0full) include the supported integration in PHPnuke? If yes, which version of it (they're preparing 5.0)? It is the greatest addon which you can make for PHPnuke (even for the money), because not all (and me too) love PHPbb, which now included in PHPnuke.

I'm trying to upgrade from RC2 to RC3..
Do I extract the new zip into its OWN folder and then run upgrad8.php from the admin dir?
Or do I have to extract the new zip into my EXISTING forums folder and then run upgrad8.php from the admin dir?

When you unzip vbulletin2.zip it will create an 'upload' directory and copy all the files to this. This directory is a carbon copy of the forums directory. You need to copy (and overwrite) all these files to your forums directory. Then run upgrade8.php from your browser. Delete install.php first though since its presence will cause an error. (See previous messages.)
Hope this helps!
Maverick1236
Sat 12th May '01, 5:23pm
Unzip the RC3 into a new folder.
cut the upload dir out and PASTE it into your existing RC2 dir-overwriting the existing upload folder.
then FROM YOUR WEB BROWSER call up the upgrade8.php script.
like this:
http://maverickscommunityftp.com/admin/upgrade8.php
by calling it from your browser you will be taken through the install process.
hope this helps!

OK.... I don't understand how you can upgrade without overwriting unless all the templates are stored in the .style file which should not be overwritten (so it would seem) or else you delete everything you have. Note, I have not only custom templates but also custom config.php files, etc. that appear in the admin and root directory of vb.
I would think that upgrading consists of a three part process:
(1) Save all the custom .php files.
(2) Copy all the new files in the upgrade to the appropriate folders but don't overwrite the .style file.
(3) Re-edit all of my custom config.php, index.php files, etc.
Jake Bunce
Sat 12th May '01, 7:08pm
I have little customizations in lots of my templates. I have stayed up to date with every latest upgrade in the vB 2.0 series. I have always uploaded the new cp.css, vb.style, and all those wierd files. The only files I don't "reupload" are the files in the images folder since I have lots of custom images. I assume that templates and such are all stored in the database itself since i have never lost any custom templates. So I don't think you have to worry about that aspect of it.
Regarding the php files where you have altered the code: I would recommend backing up those altered files, uploading the new php files in their place, and then adding your mods to the new files later. With each upgrade jelsoft is modifying the php scripts with optimized code, bug fixes, security fixes, etc. In order to take advantage of these code optimizations you really should start from the new php files and not keep your old ones without uploading the new ones. Plus, I'm sure it would jack with the upgrade script and/or forum functionality later on if you don't upload all of the new php files during an upgrade.

vbulletin.style should be overwritten. It contains the new "master" template set needed during upgrading/installation. The templates (including your custom templates) are all stored in the database, which is not overwritten.
Note, I have not only custom templates but also custom config.php files, etc. that appear in the admin and root directory of vb.
You will need to use some sort of comparison software, such as Beyond Compare (http://www.scootersoftware.com/), to compare the changes and make them to your new files if you wish to retain your custom changes to your PHP files.
I would think that upgrading consists of a three part process:
(1) Save all the custom .php files.
I would keep a copy of them onhand in case something goes awry with the upgrade; however make sure you overwrite all of the files in the forums directory on your server (except the images).
(2) Copy all the new files in the upgrade to the appropriate folders but don't overwrite the .style file.
No, you must overwrite vbulletin.style too.
(3) Re-edit all of my custom config.php, index.php files, etc.Yes, this you have to do.

Ah... thank you for making that clear tubedogg. Now everything make sense as to why it all worked when I did this stuff before! I'm pretty religious about backups of the entire site, including the database, especially before an upgrade or doing something drastic.

Can you tell me if the security problem is just for RC 1 or 2 or does it also affect 2.3 (etc)? I was waiting to upgrade after the final release.

Sun 13th May '01, 9:17pm
It affects all betas (1-5, RC1, and RC2), and I believe it also affects v1.x versions too.

I upgraded to Candidate 3 yesterday. All was fine but this morning:
yes-its-free.com is showing no new posts in the last 1000 days in this forum every time you click on something.
Is this a bug or do I have something set wrong?
#2
Also, another administrator just emailed me this:
Also I noticed a few other little problems. When I go into Admin Options and prune each post after 30 days. I get this message, for each ( I've tried about 20 posts and still get the same message )
"vBulletin Message
Invalid thread specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster"
Ideas?

As has been said many many times, it will be soon. They will not peg specific dates because if it doesn't come out on that date for whatever reason, you would be even more upset than if they just don't give a specific date.

Could we get a RC4 out? The list of bugs found after RC3 was released is quite large and going to be a pain to go through.
But if need be I will, but just thought it might be a nice time to release the next canidate.
slinky
Mon 14th May '01, 10:34pm
I think the list of people experiencing problems seems to have grown somewhat but we cannot confirm it's due to bugs in RC3. Some have problems while others are upgrading smoothly. I've had corruption problems myself as well as, dare I admit, a lack of knowledge of all the *features* (seriously, features and not bugs ;) ) in vB 2.
I have not yet upgraded because (1) I'm still deciding whether I want to keep the forums in a separate domain from my main domain and (2) I would need to re-edit all my custom php files and that will take some time although I'm trying to prioritize it.
Give them the time they need to make the proper determination. I'm sure they'd like to see a vB2 Gold just as much as all of us, if not more.

From release candidate 2:
Upload all the files, then run the upgrade8.php script in the admin area. When you are done, be sure to delete install.php and all the upgradex.php scripts.

I cannot figure out for the life of me if there will be another pre release before gold. After reading all these posts I find that opinions go up and down to what are and what are not bugs.
Are there still alot of issues to be resolved? Most of the bugs in the bug list look like they have been fixed.
So..... Do we see 4 coming? Or are we headed for Gold?
Thanks

This is probably a frequent request, but it would make it a lot easier to use vb with other front-ends when only one database is available. To get vb 1.6 to work with PHP-Nuke I had to change all references to the "session" table to "vb_session". It would be nice if vb could create all of its tables with a "vb_" prefix or some such (as PHP-Nuke is doing with the 5.0 release).

This has been request many times :) and they are looking into it for future versions, but it will not be in v2 Final.

The RC 3 upgrade from RC 2 was perfect.
My UBB 5.x import into a single Forum of 5K topics and 33K posts was quite fast and worked! That new import script is so much better.
Outstanding work :)
Seems to me a few more RCs might be in order and I'm happy to wait for the geeks to continue their magic. Please trust me on this, a lot of folks are watching very closely on how you handle the "gold" so if it takes a few extra weeks then I guess thats a price I'm happy to pay :)
Good luck to all :)

Hey guys!
I have a problem.
My upgrade was without any mistakes, but when I want to see referrals of any users, the page is empty.
Just empty page and thats it.
Can you help me and maybe somebody has this problem too?

Good point. I don't mind waiting for a stable release, I've upgrade to each RC with my hacks and templates. I hope vb developers don't feel under pressure for a quick release. If vb comes out with lots of bugs, you'll have patch1, patch2 etc. and you'd still have to upgrade and change code and templates.
So, RC's are fine till we have the gold :)

Hi there,
upgrade went fine, reverted the appropriate files and recustomized them. Maybe I did something wrong, since I got an search error:
Parse error: parser stack overflow in ./admin/functions.php on line 130
URL: http://mcseboard.de/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3&highlight=gut
I did a search on "gut", 3 letter minimum is enabled in Options, Search Reindices were emptied and reindexed...
Any hint ???
thx,
-Tom

Since I upgraded my board to RC3 he dont show the pics anymore with a i m g tag. It dont works anymore.
I tried by the properties of a forum turn off the BB IMG code and the bb code on, but also dont works, and i tried bb img code on and bb code off and i tried bb img code on and bb code off and also dont works.
so when i try 2 add a smilie from the smilies hack or a other pic with this
[ i m g ] http://www.picurl [ / i m g ]
it dont show the image but just the code in the post.

Hey guys,
I noticed the "vBulletin 2.0.0" thing at http://www.sitepointforums.com/ a while ago. At first, I thought they didn't want people to think they were running something non-stable, but I guess not.

Urban fetch will not be delivering ice cream and movies to my doorstep for free, Kozmo will not be delivering iced tea to my workplace even if I paid them with 200 Kozmo points they gave me as ordering incentive, Buy.com will not be providing me with my periodic electronic gadget fix at 7% below cost.... damn.... I miss the days of those high priced marketing consultants and VCs who believed they'd make a profit by providing all those great free services.. <sigh>..

Spell checking was not a free service, users paid by viewing ad impressions. But the business model may not have worked for them as they expected.

Did you have to view an ad before you could use the spell checker? I think it was incidental like all the others (free Internet access with a banner on top of the company browser). The business model worked as expected, although not as hoped!
