I'm currently running (2) dedicated Dual Xeon servers w/1 Gig RAM each w/(2) 73Gig SCSI drives (each). (one for web, the other for dbase) They are doing OK but we're steady growing and I am interested in going Opteron..

I have 4 communities, one of which is a fairly busy.. Let's just say that the Dual Xeons handle them Ok but the web servers loads are between 1-2 now most of the time. I want Opterons but I want to make sure I get the right setup. . They each come with (2) 250 Gig SATA drives but I have asked for some customizations figures and what I got is below.

Opteron Servers

Web:
Dual Opteron 246 Processors
2 Gigabyte PC3200 ECC DDR RAM
$204.95 (base)
---------------------
(2) 74 Gig Raptor Drives (Upgrade from 250mb SATA)
Raid 1 Controller
Cpanel/WHM
Redhat Enterprise
100 M/bit Switch Port
Crossover Cable to dbase server
+$90.00/mo.
Server Total: 295.95

Database Server
Dual Opteron 246 Processors
2 Gigabyte PC3200 ECC DDR RAM
64 Bit Centos OS
$204.95 (base)
--------------
(1) 10k 73Gig SCSI Hard Drive +50.00/mo
(1) 160 Gig SATA Drive (Backups) +30.00/mo
Server Total: $285.95 /mo

So, any recommendations on changes and if this setup will yield good performance? I wanted to run (2) 73gig 10k SCSI drives for the database server but that would be an additional $96 over the price listed above for the dbase server because of the RAID card install, and that is a bit more than I want to spend unless it is really necessary.

Thanks for your time,
David

Another option would be a single dedicated Dual Opteron Raid server with the following specs:

Dual Opteron 246 processors
4 Gigs of RAM
(3) 73 Gig 10K SCSI Drives
Raid 5 Controller
Cpanel
$422.40/mo

I can go up a notch in the processors for about $50-$75 per month.

Thoughts on this and between this and the dual opterons listed above?

would help to have your existing xeon server stats as asked at http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70117 first :)
