I am currently on a dedicated box with OLM. I love their server. I don't mind paying up to 120/mo, right now at 80.

Currently im on a 933, 512 RAM SCSI HD, managed solution.

I can go unmanaged, more than likely, but, I do like the support that I get from OLM when I have a problem.

I need to look into either
1) managed dedicated
2) unmanaged dedicated
3) colocation

solutions

My forum DB is about 2GB, about 50 users connected (+100 or so guests/spiders) and I get about 1200 ppd.

Any recommendations?

Are there any certain specifications you're looking for? While OLM may provide managed servers for $80/month, you may not be in luck with finding another to provide the same, even for $120.

Of course, this depends on your needs. If your looking to upgrade your server hardware, your probably looking at a bit more. Throw in a control panel, if needed, and your probably going to add $10-$40 per month on top of the server.

Let me know what you need. I've talked with plenty of providers and I'll see what I can do for you.

Well, right now, I am by no means on a power house server. so, I can probably do with a base line. I'd like to be on a RAID 1 SCSI server, 1.5-2.5GHz (or lower end dual), 512-1GB of ram.

Managed isn't a requirement, I have a decent handling of a linux server, but managed is nicer, since this is a side hobby, and I cannot devote all of my time to server management. If I end up going unmanaged, I think I'd prefer going semi local colo...

I mean, in the 100-200 range, lets talk what is 'reasonable.'

I don't need a panel, I can do users/sites without a panel, the main thing is just managed, in terms of tech support and monitoring.

The trade off isn't worth it. If you can manage the sites even without a panel, you can keep up with the upgrades and security too (why bother to pay a sys admin if you do it yourself?). Even if it's just a hobby, you can login twice a month and do necessary upgrades.

It'll be wiser to stay with a shared account if you don't have time to manage/upkeep your site, than shelling out $$ just to have someone babysit a server you can do yourself. That's a waste, and money well spent on getting a decent server (at least a P4 HT with 1GB and a 80GB disk), instead.

Shared host isn't an option. My site is too big for a decent shared host.

I can recommend The Planet and ServerMatrix. You'd probably want to get some managed service through a respectable third party in addition to the managed service that they provide.

Also, you may want to take a look at the RATE YOUR WEB HOST (http://www.vbwebmaster.com/links/browselinks.php?c=2) section, where other vbulletin owners have listed and rated various web hosts.

If you don't need managed, try checking out PriorityColo.com (yes, the do colocation, but dedicated as well), 800Hosting.com and as above, ThePlanet/ServerMatrix.
