View Full Version : Import from Snitz (MSSQL)

On a Windows server with both Snitz (MSSQL) and vBulletin (MYSQL) installed, when the transfer is done and working correctly, I will move the site to a Unix type server.

I installed vBulletin 3.5 without any problems (took 5 min), installed Impex import script, no problems either in the installation.

Anyway, I run the script one by one, and I donīt get any errors on the way. When done I go update forum and topic counters (as suggested in the documentation). The statistics of the forum look fine, and at first glance all topics, posts, and members seem to be in place, but as you can see only very old topics actually have posts in them, and no members can be found in the memberslist.

What am I missing here?

Thanks

Did it again several time, with a clean install.

I got all the members correctly, by deleting the imported members group.

Stats are wrong and not all posts seem to have been imported. Many threads have only the original post in it, some other have most, but not all posts in them, it´s a strange random behaviour, and it seems to change for each time I install and import the forum (and yes, I do delete the MYSQL DB completely) before each install/import test.

Ok, I´m very close now.

Uploaded an install 2 new fresh and clean forums - a Snitz and a vBulletin. Imported the vital data from Snitz to vBulletin, and only have 2 issues that I can´t fix:

Total post count
Missing Reply count

Snitz forum:

(show 541 posts, which is correct, counting the total user post count)

vBulletin forum:

(show 326 posts, even though I ran all the "Update Counters" in the Maintenance section). When clicking on "Rebuild Post Cache" I do see the number 541 there, but it doesn´t update the count in the forum).

Also in some, mostly older topics, the reply counts are 0, even though there are several replies in the topics.

Thanks.

Seems the problem starts in Jan 2003.

I edited both forum to show the topics the same way:

In vBulletin all posts before Jan 2003, show without replies (even though you can actually view all the replies, but only when logged in).

I made a quick count, and these are indeed the replies missing from the total post count stats on the mainpage.

How do I get the stats right and showing the correct number of replies before Jan 2003 ?

Thanks.

When this is corrected, I have imported the forum from Snitz to vBulletin correctly.

Update (while I´m waiting for support)

After installing a skin, I saw a little "moderated icon" next to the topics that show no replies as guest, that would explain everything, the only problem is that when I´m logged in as admin I don´t see any posts in the admin section that needs to be moderated. This is probably the import that somehow imported the oldest posts as moderated.

Ok, I fixed it !!!!

Even though the admin module didn´t show up any posts that require approval, I managed to do it from the topics themselves, manually approving 1 by 1 - so now the 2 forums are identical in post count, threads, members.

My best guess is that the Snitz importer has a bug that imports older posts (Jan 2003) as moderated, but only some of them (why, I don´t know). I´m sure Jerry will fix this asap, because when I start converting my large forum with over 100 000 posts, it would take decades to approve all the posts that have been imported incorrectly.

Well, for large forums, it´s an entirely different matter, not only are many posts imported as moderated and needs approval manually, many posts are not imported at all - I´m currently testing an import of over 100 000 posts and only just above 20 000 were imported. There were no errors of any kind, the posts just dissapear. I believe it has something to do with the dates, since only newer posts are missing.

With a thread bumped that much and edited posts removing questions and adding answers I can't follow what you are reporting.

Sorry about, I´ve just been reporting what has happened.

My first installments were all tests from a small Snitz forum to vBulletin, which I was able to convert successfully, since all the posts were imported. Many of them imported as moderated posts, so I had to manually approve them - oh well, took about 30 min.

Now, I´m on to test my "real" forum, which has over 100 000 posts in it. As I wrote above, only about 20 000 posts are imported, many moderated, so there´s definately a bug in Impex.

What version of Snitz ? and I'd need a copy of the source database to verify.

The links and info are in the support ticket, where we´ll take it from there, as agreed.
