I love vBulletin 3.5 since the first Beta Version.
OK, now that this Baby is out, let's get ready for the next steps:
Plugin and Product Manager could need a redesign
A possiblity to define Plugin Execution Order would be good
Some method for caching Datastore Items is curcial
Possibility to show or hide private forums on per forum basis is necessary (for me)
Primary Usergroup changes through paid subscriptions need to be fixed, as they are not working properly

You must be upgrading from 3.0.9 which doesn't use the plugins..
This is a BREEZE compared to the OLD system. Esp now that's it's gone gold and the hacks will all be sorted out.

Through the source code there are hooks, using the plugin system you can insert php code at those points to execute.. this means you don't have to edit the files.

With regards to the look, I think it needs some work.If you're referring to the 'vBulletin 1.0 Retro' style that we currently have running on this forum, it's only meant as a joke to remind people of what vBulletin looked like five years ago at version 1.0.
The real vBulletin 3 styles can be found in the style chooser at the bottom of the page.

according to my updated templates feature/comparison thingy, it shows threadbit has been modified, however you dont list that in your announcement.
Just so you know this is the comparison from RC3 to 3.5
Here is the line so you know who modded it.
threadbit
Default Template Updated in 3.5.0 by Kier
If we don't list a template as changed in the announcement it usually means that the edit was purely cosmetic or just cleaning up HTML formatting.
Any important edits that actually affect the running of the system would be noted in the announcement.

Within config.php $config['Database']['tableprefix'] must be empty for the upgrade to proceed.

I am brand new to this stuff and trying to learn. I am in the process of upgrading and I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing. When running the upload script I get the below error.
Configuration: includes/config.php exists, but is not in the 3.5 format. Please convert your config file via the new config.php.new.
Is all that I need to do is modify the config.php.new with my current informaiton?
Thank just dont want to mess up my forum.........:confused::confused:
If not already resolved, you should raise a support ticket from Member's Area for a quick response from the support team. :)

Sitting here upgrading and i see two styles called "phpinclude_start" and "warn".
What i wonder is if the first one is anything used in vB 3.5 or is it just a old one left from 3.0? The second one is an old from my warn-system that i will remove.

I think i may have found a bug! ;)
At my forum we have a minimum of 10 chars / message and if you write "bla" and push the "Post Quick Reply", it will say "Your message is to short"
Then you continue writing "abc" and when you push space to make a whitespace it will automaticly click the button "Post Quick Reply" since it is marked which will either say "Your message is to short" or post the message (depending of how much you wrote) which is not what you intended since you wanted to continue writing!

It would be really nice to have the full list of changed templates since the 3.0.x series for those of us who haven't been following RCs. It is EXTREMELY helpful to be able to plan out template changes that will need to be done before actually getting to it. Reverting to the default templates isn't exactly a happy option for us...

My forum is MASSIVELY customized ... but I finally upgraded with RC3 and decided right away to restart from scratch with the default templates. Simply too much has changed.
I DID successfully have my old vB3.0 templates running with vB3.5rc3 but there were several features that weren't availlable because they are only in the new templates.
It took me a solid 50-60 hours of tinkering, but I think it was definately worth it to know that I now have full vB3.5 (well ... still RC3 .. but you know what I mean .. lol)
Feel free to take a look at how much I've done ( http://www.homeofchat.com/vB/ - my actual site is http://www.homeofmusic.com ) ... mind you I'm only 90% done ... still have a 2nd round of tweaks, changes and customizations ... but I was holding off until Gold before doing the rest.
I'm basically simply going to wait a couple of days to see if any major errors develop before I upgrade ... I'm busy with work until friday anyways.
Anyhow ... do yourself a favour and restart from scratch ... it'll take longer, but you'll sleep better at night knowing you didn't miss anything! lol

Can we delete our old folder and its contents forum/subscriptions as well as the file forum/subscriptions.php? They were not included in the new upload package. After backing up my database and forum directory I created a forum named forum2. Uploaded all files needed to forum2. Ran the upgrade scripts. Made sure everything worked. Then renamed my original forum, forum3 and renamed forum2 to forum. This way only thise files needed are there. Then only when I'm real comfortable I deleted forum3.

Well that was a hair-raising upgrade.
I initially had database errors in the middle of it because I'd put my username and password the wrong way around in the config file.
So tell me... when I get emails about database errors that reveal the password... none of those were actually viewable by the end user right? Right? RIGHT?

If you haven't manually edited the template files, you should be fine methinks. I upgraded my forums with a plugin or two, and have no problems. Might be a good idea to check over the templates (unless they show as default) to make sure.

No, but you should apply the changes (and there are many). It's best to create a new skin, and start from scratch and reapply your changes using the new code rather than attempt to convert your skins from 3.0.x to 3.5.x.

There are always going to be updated templates.. infact each beta / RC had a fairly big list of updated templates. Thats the problem when you design things for beta / rc products.

You should expect template changes in every version...
It was considered unstable/unsupported for a reason before.
Most of the issues in troubleshooting are related to people not uploading files properly or not reverting all the templates necessary (use "find updated templates"!). There have been very few actual bugs reported, and several of those that have been reported are just typos.

I love vBulletin 3.5 since the first Beta Version.
OK, now that this Baby is out, let's get ready for the next steps:
Possibility to show or hide private forums on per forum basis is necessary (for me)
Our Forum has 5-6 private forums and different levels of viewing. Kirby, is this something that 3.5 doesn't have? Private information is shared and only viewed by certain groups also. Of course then there are our Mod and Admin forums which we hide from public view.
I must be misunderstanding this comment, since this is common in other forums I have used, especially for moderators and admin private forums.
My concern is that upgrading might expose all the private information to regular member group.
Set me Straight! and Thanks for your comment!

It still acts the same way, as in, you can make forums appear for certain groups. It won't effect your permissions.
What Kirby is referring to there has got me a bit confued as well.

He wants the "show private forums" option per forum.
For example, if you can't access the moderators' forum, you can't see it. However, if you can't access the subscribers' only forum, you can still see it on forumhome (to entice you).

Thanks Mike for clearing that picture for me!
Yes we have about 7-8 forums that members can see on forumhome but cannot access without requesting permission.
So, I am gathering then that I need to stay with 3.0.9, because this ability didn't carry over to 3.5 gold? (at least so far)

Thats the way Im planning on doing it too. :)

My standard posting interface is messed up in Firefox after upgrading. Any ideas what's up?

Just a note of thanks,
Over 300 posts since I upgraded and things are running smooth as silk. One or two reminders to people to dump their cookie and file cache, but nothing more. The smoothest upgrade I've ever performed.
