How can I set up Apache and mySQL to play nicely with the machine? (Red Hat 6.1) I have seen the availible memory dip to below 8MB free before, and it doesn't seem like they should be forking off that many processes. Is this normal operation (the ratio of sleeping processes to awake ones is odd)?

Also, how would running, say, a distributed.net client on this bad boy (Dual PIII) hurt/hinder any performance of the boards?

I run d.net on every UNIX machine I have. :)

Now, you NEED to redo MySQL so that it is a single process with multithreading. That's crazy running MySQL as multiple processes per request!

Apache 2.0 is also multithreaded, but it's still alpha.

You can crank down the number of "normally active" Apache processes in the config file, take a look for that, and crank it down - performance "may" suffer if you get a huge number of hits, but then you won't want to run that small a machine with it if you have that.
