I made one of my board called "Site News" so only the admin (that being me) can post new threads there, while all other usergroups except guests can posts replies only. I did this by enabled the access mass in the vb options and then created a custom permission setting for each usergroup for that board. I specifcly made it so Super Moderators cant make new posts, delete threads, move threads, create polls and so on.

But it seems after I made a post as admin on that board and locked the thread. After logging back on using a Super Moderator account I was able to post a reply in that locked thread and also delete the thread. Even though I set all permissions so all a Super Moderator should be able to do is post replies only.

Is this normal or should I not have been able to post a reply in a locked thread and delete the thread also, based of the permissions I set for S.Mods.

You cannot edit SuperMod permissions like you thought you did in vB2. When you edit the forum permissions for a usergroup, keep in mind that those "close threads", "delete threads", etc options only apply to threads which they created. A SuperMod can mod every forum, you cannot pick and choose. That's what regular Mods are for. :)

so your saying even though I posted a thread logged on as admin on a forum board were I had custom permissons to not let S.Mods delete, move threads etc. It has no effect on them and they can still delete a thread the admin posts no matter how I change the permissions for super moderators.

Wow, it would be nice if you tried to understand what you were reading. ;)

I clearly said that the permissions you're setting only effects threads that they create.

Well it was 3.30am in the morning here when I read you other reply, so excuse me not fully understanding it proper. Long day, tired and all that!

But now that I'm wide awake!

I see a fundimental problem with that from were I'm standing. That means a super mod has the abilty to edit all admin posts made (with custom permission not stopping him from deleting a post made by an admin) on the board. Even though in all reality an admin has an higher status than a super mod. For me that doesn't add-up.

So I guess if you have a super mod you better make dam sure he's you best buddy, other wise he can delete and remove every single post on your board, including all admin posts with custom permission not stopping him from doing anything, bar his own posts made. :D

Why would you hire someone you don't trust fully in the first place?

And if you have so much of a problem with the software, hack the board to death or upgrade to vB3. :D

My guidelines forum is closed to everyone except for viewing.
I denied everyone in permissions, then went down the line and allowed viewing only.
If I want to change or add something I just go back into permissions and set Administrator to yes, make my changes then reset it.
I also locked the thread.
This way anyone can read it but no one can change it or add threads or posts.
I also use a test account and I couldn't change it as a super moderator or as the administrator.
I have to reset it in permissions.
