Hi

I do plan to start with a "clean" = original, database when I install vBulletin 3.5 gold, because I have been using the current database since vBulletin 2.x days and have some modified tables/old admin options that no longer work or I use/etc due to hacks I used/use. That's sure after the new Impex is released for vB 3.5

I have a board with 10,200+ members, 625,000+ posts

My questions:

1- Is there any drawbacks of that convert (Yes I'll put attachments first in database, Yes I'll update counters after I finish).

2- Will the threads IDs, posts IDs, and members IDs stay the same? or they will be recreated and rearranged from scratch? (That's the most important questions).

3- Anything you suggest me to do first or after the import.

4- Do you suggest I only Upgrade and import the new vB3.5 style? and skip all headache of importing? *(ie. Modified tables are cool?, old database is cool?)

Thank you!

ImpEx will grab attachments from the file system for the vB3 module now.

2- Will the threads IDs, posts IDs, and members IDs stay the same? or they will be recreated and rearranged from scratch? (That's the most important questions).

Yes they will all change due to the auto_inc of MySQL, so internal links will be broken.

3- Anything you suggest me to do first or after the import.

Backup your database and test and upgrade as well as an import so you can see the diffrence.

4- Do you suggest I only Upgrade and import the new vB3.5 style? and skip all headache of importing? *(ie. Modified tables are cool?, old database is cool?)

All I can suggest is testing both, without knowing the exact changes I can say what an upgrade will do.

Thanks for the reply :) but sorry I didn't get this:

Do you mean that importing is better?

Do you mean that importing is better?

I mean, I don't know what your database is like.

Take a back up, and do and import and check it out, then start again and do an upgrade and see what that is like.

Basically, do both and see which suits your board better. Some boards are so hacked then have to import, others can upgrade, depends on what state your database is in.

Ok Thanks Jerry, all clear now.
