Please use this thread to discuss the release of the vBulletin 3.5 Release Candidates.
Do not use this thread to post troubleshooting queries or bug reports. The vBulletin 3.5 Bug Tracker (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/bugs35.php?) and vBulletin 3.5.0 forums (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=100) are available for that purpose.

Congratulations guys, I am a long time vBulletin fan and customer and I just wanted to pat you guys on the back for your vBulletin 3.5 release candidate. Let's hope it will be one of only a few and we can see the gold release soon.
Until then I'll be proud to run each RC and stress the living heck out of them. :D

Sorry if this has been asked before (and I'm sure it has, it's just that search results in too many results). If I install RC! now, can I easily upgrade to gold when gold is released? I want to start a small, second forum now but upgrade it to gold when gold is released.
Thanks, and sorry if I've missed the obvious answer somewhere.

Yes, you'll be able to upgrade by overwriting your files and running the upgrade script.

If you haven't made any changes to any of the templates that are listed, then the Upgrade process will automatically update those. If you have made changes, you will need to manually revert and then re-do your changes to get the new default code in there. After upgrading, run the Find Updated Templates option under Styles & Templates to see if you have any templates that need attention.
Colin F
Tue 26th Jul '05, 4:58pm
Those are the changes in templates since Beta 4.
As modified templates aren't overwritten, the changed templates are listed to allow people with custom styles an easier way to upgrade their templates.

Those are the changes in templates since Beta 4.
As modified templates aren't overwritten, the changed templates are listed to allow people with custom styles an easier way to upgrade their templates.
Okay, so if I run the upgrader, it does not overwrite my changes?
Thus, the listed the changes so we could add those manually.
In theory, one could apply said template edits and never even touch the installer, yes?

Yes, it does not overwrite any templates you edited.
But you still need to run the upgrade.php file, as any new phrases, changed templates in the master style, database changes and so on are done within it.

Yes, you need to upload all PHP files as well, since many of them have been changed. During "REAL" releases, the announcement also includes a list of all the PHP files that have changed. During BETA/RC releases, they don't provide that.

Hello,
I just installed "vBulletin 3.5.0 RC1". In "forumdisplay" view I checked 3 threads, which I want to delete (I want to test the "mass prune function). After checking the checkbox, the three lines got highlighted. I clicked "Forum Tools" -> "Mass Prune Threads" -> "Perform Action". vBulletin redirects me to
admincp/index.php?loc=thread.php%3Fdo%3DpruneBecause I think I marked the three threads I'd like to prune, I click "Prune" and get a error message
Please Complete All Required Fields
Same with "Mass Move".
I thought I could check as many threads as I want to check and could prune/move them. But in this way, I don't think it should behave, shouldn't it?

Actually, it looks like this part of code was removed from the footer template..

Yes, but it was already commented out anyway, so it has no effect. It was just removed to clean it up I assume.

When a bug in the Release Candidate is committed to the CVS, does that mean that more recent downloads are up-to-date?

vBulletin 2 is no longer 'supported' in the same way as vBulletin 3, though we know that some people still run it for various reasons so we continue to provide security patches for it when necessary.
This will probably cease to be the case with the release of vBulletin 4.
Yes: some time before vBulletin 5.
Quoted for future referance :D

We are receiving numerous reports of people saying that they are unable to post messages at this board.
The vast majority of these problems can be resolved by loading a page containing an editor (quick reply, newreply.php etc.) and hitting the refresh button on your browser.
This is exactly the kind of thing that I think is unacceptable for us to have to put our users through. I sure hope I can completely avoid this problem by sending out dont-cache headers on the client javascript for several days (or more) before my 3.5 upgrade. If I'm not mistaken, setting dont-cache after the upgrade is too late to help, right?

Are the only changes, I have to do, these stated here:

From what I understand...
Upgrades don't touch customized templates. So unless you revert all your templates back they will not be touched. You should have to do all the template edits including the ones in the betas.

Setting don't cache at any time should be all that's required. That's not entirely true. A lot of companies won't refresh everything if the user is behind their proxy. I'm behind my proxy at work, and hitting CTRL-REFRESH doesn't fix everything for me on my forum, and I have no-cache headers turned ON.

That's because the Proxy caches files. The proxy doesn't know if your browser did a hard refresh or not.

In a standard environment it would be true. Unfortunately, you are running a non-standard environment that is beyond our control. If it is work related and the issue is affecting that work, you should talk to your network administrator about an exception for the site.

The proxy should know if it reads all the headers sent from the user.

Is the CMS actually being developed? We've heard talk about this for some time now but that's it - just talk. Kind of reminds me of developer popular over at .org (TECK) and his "cPublisher" that's been even longer and just like vBulletin nothing has came out of it thus far!?!

So is this good to go on your working forum? I've been using 3.5 on a working forum since beta 3, and never had any problems outside the known bugs; and even they were easy to live with, knowing they'd be fixed.
As a rule, though, nothing less than Gold is recommended for working forums. It's up to you what you do, but make sure you back up your current forums and database first, just in case.

Just a small note to everybody wondering:
If you run 3.0.x and you don't want to upgrade to 3.0.8 because you feel 3.5.0 stable is close then at least patch your 3.0.x with the files from the announcement. This will fix the minor security issues, and that's always a good thing.
If you run 3.5.0 (beta or rc) you do not have to take any action, you can not use the patch files and you can't run the 3.0.8 upgrade files, nor can you downgrade to 3.0.8. The issues from 3.0.7 are fixed in 3.5.0 RC 1. So you do not have to worry.

well .. that may seem like a very long list ... but from what I saw, most are rather minor or have already been delt with or are non-issues ... I'm not a programmer, so I don't know if any of them are serious enough to merit a RC2 to test out the fix or if they are simple enough that the fix was short and obvious and doesn't require testing time!
That's basically why I asked .. lol .. I usually do a bit of searching before asking ... there was nothing that my non-programer instincts told me 'major roadblock' ... so I figured I'd ask! Particularly considering virtually everybody seems to be saying vB3.5 has been working rather flawlessly for them! :)
