Hello,

I saw that you improved the quick reply so that it includes more options. But, a very useful one would be the "smilies". Why don't you add the smilies to quick reply as an option?

Defeats the purpose of a Quick Reply.

Defeats the purpose of a Quick Reply.

And why is that?

Quick reply only means reply quick without going to the advanced editor!

I second this

If so, we don't even need the "Bold, Italic, Underline" and changing colors, inserting images, or quote... It's only for quick replies!! Especially for "inserting image" option, it's not necessary at all! But, smilies are much more important than these additional features. Because, they affect our writings. And even a quick post, always needs smilies. My forum's members always tell me that they need this feature, but I haven't found it in vB.

I agree. Most people will be using quick reply and typing  is too much work.

I totally agree, the more features we add for lazy people, the better

You have to remember that loading the smilies will take longer than loading the necessary accessories to the Quick Reply ;)

Although a "smilie dropdown box" like in the WYSIWYG editor on the Go Advanced page might be a solution to keep both parties happy, with of course an option to disable it ;)

Yea that's right. An option would be provided just to disable/enable smilies. But, I don't think that it takes too much time to load even if it is longer than the other options which are not really necessary.

I never given this much thought, because I do not use Quick Reply (yet). But reading your post I must say it's interesting to see that smilies are not a part of the QR, but the insert images IS. I completely agree with you : smilies are an essential part of writing a message these days. I am also suprised to see the 'insert image' option available in QR: such a feature belongs to the Advanced Edit, IMHO.

Just try to hit the 'Insert Image' button and put in an url of a fairly large image... you now have to adjust the length of the QR-'textarea' so you can 'manage' this image, which now fills up your QR-'textarea' completely. I know the QR editor is very flexible and we can adjust the length of the editor, but is seems that a function like 'insert picture' belongs to the Advanced Edit. I find it interesting to know why this is put in, maybe there are reasons for it?

I would like to know what vBulletin team members say about this...?

This would be great with a on/off option :)

Yeah but typing
:) is far quicker than moving and clicking. If any more smilies are needed aside from the basic ones then the reply page is better for it.

Indeed, you have a point there. I never used QR , but will in the future, so I was just brainstorming about it from reading the remarks in the thread here.

And reading your reply, I guess you're right also: it's not much hassle at all to put the more basic smilies in a QR-message:

: (
: p
: o
; )
: D
: )

It costs more effort to put the not-so-basic one's in:

: cool:
: confused:
: mad:
: rolleyes:
: eek:

For me it's not an important issue really when I introduce QR on my forum, but I can see why people find it handy to put the smilies-dropdown in there. But sticking to the standard one's (you reminded me I can actually type them in....) is no real problem either.

I would like to know what vBulletin team members say about this...?Since you asked, personally I''d be against it. IMO it's counter-productive to keep adding options to 'Quick Reply' to make it a duplicate of the standard reply. That's just my opinion though and is not the official opinion of the Devs.

I actually laughed out loud at this. Did you work on the Windows XP development team?

You have already added lots of additional options to this. My point is that instead of for example, putting the "Insert link" option, you could put the smilies since they are used much more frequently.

Huh? I posted exactly one opinion and only because you specifically asked:

Othewise I rarely comment on suggestions. :)

I agree that the insert image button is rather something for the normal reply.

On the other hand, the standard smilies like :) ;) :p shouldn't be so hard for your members to type...

Once upon a time ... ;)

I would really appreciate this feature. I think having the smilies drop down in quick reply is more important than text color or quote tags.

If English is not your default forum language this becomes even more important, not to mention forums with many many smilies.
