Could someone please tell me what I need to host 200-300+ concurrent vB users without any noticeable slowdown. What speed Processor do I need and do I need two of them, and how much RAM? Or do I need two servers for this?
I have been looking at these configs so far -
Verio:
Dual 750 MHz Intel P3
512 MB RAM
18 GB, 10K SCSI Hard Drive
Rackspace:
1GHz Intel P3
512 MB RAM
9 GB, 10K SCSI Hard Drive
DellHost:
Dual 933 MHz Intel P3
512 MB RAM
Two 9 GB, 10K SCSI Hard Drives
Single Channel RAID 1
Thanks in advance! :)

well i have a server from http://www.venturesonline.com/Dedicated_Servers/dedicated_servers.html
Dual p3 866
768mb ram
18gb 10k scsi hdd
40 ips
100gb/month
handles up to 267 users so far with no slow downs and my vB ain't the only site on the server.
i suggest something like
Dual P3 933
1GB ram
18GB scsi drive
make sure the partition which contains your mysql data normally /var/lib/mysql has been partitioned with adequate space

It's funny because your list of hosts there is the same short list I came up with when moving to a dedicated server. I went with Verio and am extremely happy with them... this site and many other very large vBulletin boards are also hosted with Verio. The one advantage RackSpace has is they have the best support. As far as your configurations go, they all look like they would handle things, although I would opt for 1GB of RAM if you can afford it.

We're currently hosting with Verio but are in the process of moving to a new firm AppRack, started by an ex Digital Nation (now Verio) founder. They are just getting started so there site is lacking a bit. However, we were able to move to two servers for less than we pay for one at Verio.
We're still not live there so I can't give you any first hand advice, but I will as soon as I have it.
