View Full Version : Don't count thread creators views.

I think it would be better if views were not updated when the thread is viewed by the thread creater. Many times you will create a thread, edit it, go back and check if the spelling is correct or whatever and each time the view count increases.

Kind of misleading imo.

I know there's a hack at .org for this but would like to see it either as default or controled via a setting.
Count Thread Authors Views? Yes No

Thanks

Just on my own opinion, a view is a view, just because a thread gets 100,000 views doesn't mean its anything if it has 0 replies.

Yea, disabling who views what and when would just put too much overhead for something that doesnt matter at all. It's just a stat, a minute one at that.

MGM out

I concur with Zonex on this issue. For smaller sites it is better to track actual views to see what's hot and what's not. Some posts are rhetorical in nature in that they are for info only, not so much response. And there are times where larger posts will have to be edited more than once which will cause the view counter to increase.

Plus I noticed that this site has that feature. Any post I start does on which I click later will not increment the views counter. So please enlighten us on how to enable this feature.

*bump*

There is no reason to bump a suggestion this soon, developers do take the time to read over all suggestions but they will not always comment. If you really want this feature now, I'd suggest visiting vBulletin.org and getting it hacked in.

This soon? Its been almost 24 hours.

To be honest theres no reason to bump suggestion threads almost at all...

Helpful reply.

Fact is I did not start this thread, I did do the courteous thing and search for a similar problem as to not spam the forums. Thusly I attached my response to an already existing request.

I also did the courteous thing and waited 12 hours before 'bumping' the thread, as described in numerous searches as the defacto standard, before finding this thread

And it is my assumption that vbulletin.com runs stock vbulletin software, so if vbulletin.com forums are not incrementing view counts when the thread creator views their thread then why not pass along the knowledge?

It does update views regardless of who views it, but it takes an hour to update views.

Ahhh that's right, via cronjob. Forgot about that, my bad.

So the only solution is to hit up vbulletin.org?

Yes, if you want it now. Its not known if this will ever make it into the feature set.

Well now you play the waiting game or the paying game.

Unless a user on vB.org will see that useful to themselfs and have the time to code it and support it, you might need to pay for someone else to make it.

Gotcha.... prolly just end up coding it myself.

Thanks for the responses.
