Good job asking first, because no, vBulletin is NOT free, there are two kinds of licenses you can get:
Leased License
Price: $85
This license is valid for one year, so you can get updates, hacks from
vBulletin.org, and support until then. Also, you MUST take down your vB
after that year
Owned License
Price: $160
With this license you can run your vBulletin forever, but every year
you must pay $30 if you want support, upgrades, and the ability to
download new hacks at vBulletin.org, but you can still run your vB if
you don't pay the $30
Hope this helps!

VB isn't free software. It costs $85/160 for a license.

Thanks for asking! No vB is not free and the package you got is a Pirated version, using which is against the law. I applaud you playing it right and safe. :)

I got it by an forum, But the forum went down. So i dont know any details about this guy,
I think VB is the best forum software on the net! :D
But the thing is.. I dont have that much money ..
I suggest releasing a 'lite' version of VB wich is free, Wich has only a limited number of options, but it is able to run
This will make the people more in touch with VB and if they want the full, they can buy it :)
Other wise release an trial version, Wich stops at 200 members :)

There used to be a lite version, but was discontinued ages ago, and no one can give you a copy if they still have a copy.

Maybe because it doesn't have much features like v3.0.7? And the good thing is you've asked on the forums which I'm proud of you. :)

The main reason i asked is that i was kinda curious why there was, This is free software
Guess il have tp stick to SMF then ;)
cant wait to get a good job, So i can get licence ;)
Any body got good ideas for forum wich can run a big community with eas?
Untill now SMF & VB are the only ones that suit my needs, But VB is paid

It's rigged. Notice how the lines and everything are out of place? http://images.vbulletin.com/images_vb3/smilies/tongue.gif
It should look a lot cleaner...

Hi there,
Thank you for your interest in the vBulletin forum software and for looking into purchase options. We appriciate you take the time to check up on what is legal and not.
Please inform your friend that vBulletin is not free software and the copy he is distributing is a warez version. We do not accept or tolerate piracy. Breaking the copyright i not allowed. I request you kindly to not use or run that software and urge you to just delete it from your system. And hopefully your friend does the same.
If you have any information where the software is being distribute from I would appriciate it if you could report that to us here: http://www.vBulletin.com/piracy.php - any submitted information is confidential.
Anyway, as some customers have already informed you, we're not free for download software. We offer two license types, a owned license and a leased.
The leased license is for running vBulletin for 12 months, and costs $85 per 12 months. The owned license is for running vBulletin for unlimited months, and costs $160 once.
Each license comes with 12 months download access to the latest releases and upgrades. And free professional support.
You can order your copy here: http://www.vBulletin.com/order/
If you have any further questions, please let me know.
All the best,
Jorijn

If you go look deep into the internet, you will find all sorts of nulled versions
I know a guy who was fooled, They told him that board was registerd to a licence, but it was nulled for someway too
and for the top thingie, it does look like that, But the forum messed it up someway :-/
