UPDATE!!!

You can only view the forums by logging in. I didn't realize that just viewing as a guest shows the standard vBulletin interface so all of you must have thought nothing was done!!! Ack!!! I created a user login:

login: test

-----------------------

I've just posted a preview of my new forums, hopefully to get some feedback from all of you.

Forums currently at: http://www.boldplans.com/forums/

They will be moved to another domain, thelawforums.com, which is part of thelaw.com. The overall logo shape might look familiar [;)] and works well. Hoping to get some feedback on look, feel, style -- I know about some of the deeper buttons not matching but the front few pages work and show the look and feel as well as some custom graphics. Do you think that the colors don't look too boring? Trying to keep it conservative but fun and thought that white is a little too plain and dark backgrounds are not for conservative minded audiences.

I was wondering if you thought that a brighter color, for example those nice light, peach-yellows, might improve the colour and general feel. All comments appreciated.

Next on the list is reducing the font size of the forum list (have to find where that is again)...

Feel free to ask how I did things (for the real beginners.. I'm still asking here plenty) ... most really good things need to be accomplished completely exclusive of the styles area although it's a great implementation...

Let me know what you think... thanks!

Here's a user interface improvement, in my very humble opinion -- but not really a hack because it's only some html realignment in hacking the templates. I think that vB is incredible but there is just so much sprawled all over the place, half of it useless to many of my users. This summarizes it up pretty neatly into literally half the screen space.

This is in that area just above the footer and below the message board area which has all that info jumbled across the screen with little aesthetic order to the eye.

Next on the agenda is cleaning up the private messaging and the user options area so that my users have a menu that is easy to use....

I'd like to show you another layout for the bottom area, which you can see on my site here (http://www.jjr512.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=2). (So far, I've only done it to the forums, not the threads yet.)

I expanded a bit on the legend of the folders, what they mean. It just so happened that they ended up in the pyramid look, which I thought was cool. It's not quite as compact as slinky's, since the admin options and forum rules are still on a separate line.

If you are very new at it I'd say you should probably get familiar with the templates and how it works in general. I revised one of the forum templates (I think the bit one) and you can see which template it is if you view the source code. I added in one of the ubb style template parts and then cut out some of the extraneous stuff that views standard, and then added an extra row in the template.

Very cool and great look. Easy to view. That works well for your style site, something that probably appeals those who prefer a lot of the hip and who are more savvy with the online world. My users need things much simpler and with small real estate.

Got a new one? I don't think you need to use one anymore. It's long since been fixed....
