I ran my vBulletin for about 2.5 years. Altogether I ran my community for about 5 years. The topic of the board was filmmaking.

In the end I gave away my database to one of my community members. Converted it to a PHPBB and helped him set it up on his server.

My community had been dying for over a year anyway by that point and I just got tired of running it. The conversation on my old community just felt very forced and it was hard to get a good chemistry between members.
That was about 8 months ago.

Now I'm stuck with a perfectly good vB and I have no idea what to use it for. I don't want to sell it off because I cherish it. But it is an older 2.x owned license and if I started a new board I'm enticed to start fresh with a 3.5 install. But that also means an extra $30 and I realy don't have any idea what the community would focus on.

For the last 8 months I had my VB up on my site ScapeFilms.com but it got something like 2 posts a month there. It felt like a waste to have it installed there with such little use compared to it's former life.

I debated using it as just a way to chat with my real life buddies, but they all use Livejournal for that type of thing and aren't the types who would force themselves to use a messageboard instead.

So I feel like I'm stuck with a perfectly good vb and no idea how to use it.

There are so many communities out there already for the interests I have. many of them already have thousands of members and tens or hundreds of posts a day. But maybe you guys can give me a fresh outlook on things.

Here are some of my interests, maybe you can help me decided.

Filmmaking
Photography
Graphic Art (though I won't be starting one on that, I'm not good enough)
Computers (not interested enough to run a whole community on it)
Screenwriting (kind of goes with filmmaking)
Movies in general
Electronic / World / Industrial music (not interested enough to run a whole community on it)
Sci-Fi
Fantasy/Medieval type stuff (not interested enough to run a whole community on it)

See why I'm stuck. Maybe I'm being to broad.

My suggestion probably won't be the most popular, but will produce the best results.

Don't try. Especially if you were concerned about forced posts. Think how you'd feel being a forced admin to a subject you didn't REALLY want.

Lay low, and when the topic strikes, you'll know.
