View Full Version : License question

Well I already have an owned license which I am using to power a vBulletin 2 installation. However this fall I am looking at restarting my community from scratch to go along with a full rebranding of the place and have it powered by vBulletin 3.5.0

With this rebranding I do not want all the old user data and everything moved on to the vB3. So, my question is - under the license, which says that you may only have one public instance of vBulletin running per license, would it be okay to keep the vBulletin 2 installation running on the server but purely as an archive, where all the forums are locked, members can't post, new users can't register, profiles can't be editted etc - basically so any of the veterans who join the new rebranded vB3 community, still have the vB2 running which they can back too and read to get all nostalgic.

Would this count as another public installation? Would I have to buy another license to be allowed to run the vB2 as an archive only? Or under one license would I have to stick the archive in a password protected directory?

Thanks for your time :)

Oh and some might wonder why I want to start from scratch again. Like I said this is because of rebranding and I want both new and old members to be on an equal footing on the rebranded community. So essentially everyone is new again.

No sorry. You cannot use this for an 'archive' forum without purchasing a new license. You cna only set up a non-public test forum.

Okay then cheers for clarifying that.
