So let's say I buy the $160 license and a security update was released. If it's been more than a year since I bought my license does that mean I can't get access to download the security update?
From what I read, the unlimited license only allows 12 months of downloads.

Remember access to ALL downloads is availiable @ 30.00/year.
I own a license, best software I own.

I understand, but I'm wondering about just security updates. Will I have to pay yearly to receive them or is the $30 just for major software updates?

You get what's posted on the announcement board (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=1), and simply overwrite the file posted there will keep your vBulletin installation secure :)

It depends on the nature of the security bug. If it can be fixed with a simple patch, the patches are made available in the appropriate Announcement thread. However if your version is old enough, it may not be possible to fix this with a patch.

I plan on purchasing version 3.5 when it's released.
So if I understand correctly after 12 months I will still be able to receive security updates. At least the very important ones??

If they can be delivered as patches - yes. However some security issues may not be fixable with a patch. In that case you would need to upgrade.

The developers usually will try their best to make sure security updates work with all previous versions affected, and they will be released for free. However there maybe instances where a simple patch can't be released simply because the problem is a lot more complex than first presented.

Ok, thanks for the info.
