Do you actually have to own a server to operater vBulletin, or can you hook it up to a host, i currently have a domain from homestead, and i was wondering if it is compatible with vBulletin.

You don't need to own a server. The server you install on needs to have PHP 4.3.11 and MySQL 3.2.33.

I am not aware of what homestead offers now to its paying users, however chances are if it runs at all it would not run right.

To run vBulletin correctly you will need to find a host who is running at least php 4.1.0 or better (preferably 4.3.11 or 5.0.4) and MysQL 3.23.33 or higher (preferably 4.0.17-24)

Most shared webhosting accounts start at 5-10 dollars a month and go up from there :)
