View Full Version : Database corrupted?

We have two boards. On one board, there appears to be 38 tables in the database while in the other there appears to be 15. Both were working fine yesterday but now, the one with 15 tables is obviously not working at all.
I still have tables which include user info and posts... is there anyone who can help me restore all of that without having to do so manually? Is there a rescue team in place for this type of thing?
I will be checking in all day.
Thanks,
Cygnus

Well, if the data files are physically gone, then your SOL. Unless you have a backup.
If they're still there, you could try running them through the standard fix-it measures, but I don't think that'll help. If it doesn't, you'll have to talk to someone as it would be a pretty entensive process (and possibly impossible) to regenerate everything.

OK... we are doing a fresh install of the boards. Since I have the user data, is there an easy way to get all of the people registered again or will I have to go and register them all one at a time by hand?
Help?
Thanks!

Just overwrite the new, empty user table with the old populated one.

OK... we have the tables in two separate databases. How would one copy a table from one database to another?
Your help is GREATLY appreciated. You have reassured me that my switch from UBB was the absolute right move.
Thanks!

OK... we copied some of the tables over... and now we have a SERIOUS problem. None of the user names and passwords work... including mine. And I cannot get to the control panel... or anywhere.
Uh... help!

You may have some other problems then....
What happens when you run queries on the table directly (ie, through the shell)?

Queries work from the shell but we have tried simple queries like SELECT * from...
We have not been able to copy over all tables. Two were corrupted that we know of right now. They are: template and replacement.
I added nothing to replacement but I have added a couple of templates for the who's online hack.
Other than that, some tables were not populated with anything. We are trying to match up the DBs as much as possible. Would empty tables stop all passwords from working?
Thanks again,

OK... passwords work now. They just started working....
Weird.
We are almost there. I messed up by adding forums to escape the corrupted table and they ended up getting the wrong ForumID. We are fixing it now and we have recovered all data.
Comment from my partner: "that's good software... it was pretty easy to repair"
