I feel like a kid in a candy factory after the manager just told all the staff to drop whatever they were doing and bugger off for at least 4 hours XD
Just tested inline editing in IE (school comps), and it only worked after refreshing the page.
Oh and just to piss Floris off: When will it be released? ;)

I'm sure by now it's all automated replies. They see that questions, they click something like "Annoying Question About Release", and it automatically posts. :p
I like things are turning out.
So in vB4, it should come with a fridge, coffee machine, full online staff, a small-medium user base, it can fly... and all I have to do is download it and it not only self-installs, but it start operating immediately, right?

and fills the forum with a year of great ontopic posts :)
I take it the beta should not be run on a 'live' board?
EDIT: What is the sure fire way of getting the online editing to appear? I seem to have to click like I am playing a game of Q2 to get it to start up without any rhyme nor reason to it?

I don't actually mind when the beta is released anymore... I wont be using it on a production board when it is in beta and rc status... Would be nice to start playing with though :p

I haven't been this impatient since the week before HL2 came out! GIVE US VB 3.5!
agreed. HL2 rocks, Vb 3.5 looks like its going to blow other forum software away. I'm glad i've got a few spare months avaliable... Upgrading and recoding my custom mods to VB3.5 is gunna take me a long time, should be worth it in the long run though.
Edit: testing?

It would be cool if they could post a hits tracker that was veiwable to the public. I would be interested in seeing the distrobution rate results.

The inline editing thing is awesome, but the edited by message isn't showing up. What's up?
And can the size of the editing textbox be controled?
Oh, and you guys rock.
That is because you're editing it within the allowed "Time Limit on Editing of Thread Title" probably.
Great feature, but... is it just me who gets confused to have a "hand" cursor all over the post?
I'd prefer to use a button instead, or to have to double click only in the posts title, or... something but not in the whole post's area. The hand is now the normal mouse pointer, and you can still click on the edit button if you want.
I hope the calendar gets a minor update while vB is at it. Currently it dates back 5 years but ends in December 2006.
Admin Control Panel > Calendar > Calendar Manager > Options > Date Range > 2000-2010 (that's what I use, last date on that specific calendar is 2010 now)
Hmm, $30.00/year ~ $3.00/month ~ $0.10/day. Is it too much for you? :confused:You still have to have it on that moment, you can't put a year in x hours or x days or x weeks.
vB 3.5 is looking really great, I've renewed my subscription and am anxiously awaiting the release. :D
Me too, jumping up and down in my chair. And I just renewed my 4 owned licenses :)

You'll have to ask over at the Opera Forums (http://my.opera.com/forums/).

It's up to Opera to implement a framework that allows a WYSIWYG editor like IE and FF have done. (And kinda sorta Safari.)

Means, when a user comes to vB.com, clicks Refresh when reply, then they come to our vB 3.5 site - will he see again the same vB errors?
If yes, would our users will encounter these problems if we run a brand new forum on 3.5?

Means, when a user comes to vB.com, clicks Refresh when reply, then they come to our vB 3.5 site - will he see again the same vB errors?
Files are cached based on domain name so yes... You can work around this by forcing no-cache headers for a while after upgrading and the browser will automatically download the new files.
If yes, would our users will encounter these problems if we run a brand new forum on 3.5?
If it is totally brand new with no cached files, there will be no errors unless something is modified or they change the browser identifier on unsupported browser.

arab_flash, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.
what I ask about it, why you show me the like if I can not use it? :)

I would just like to say that VB3x has been so good that I for the first time since I've been running a board I haven't been chomping at the bit waiting for the next release.
Your list of features for 3.5 is tremendous. The plugin feature is going to make our lives MUCH easier and encourage webmasters to add more valuable hacks without the fear of the time and trouble it takes to modify files every time a new Vb version is released.
Thanks Vbulletin!

It's already been said there' like (I think it was) over 100 (or was it 400) places to plug things in.
And from what is apparent at vbulletin.org, they're already making new Plugins for vB 3.5.0 Beta with no problems...

you can always add it manually. if you use one of the other checkout options as a template for the db querys the rest is just adding the proper conditional statements in a file(not sure how this is changed tho for 3.5)

Why was the Hand cursor taken out of the inline editing?
My thinking:
In the context of a website the Hand Cursor usually only requires a single click for it's action to take effect. The inline post editing currently requires a double click, so it is confusing to suddenly require a double click where a single click is usually required.
I think there still needs to be a better cue that inline editing is possible for given posts. As it stands now the normal pointer is provided for all posts (some can be edited inline and some can't). I'm not sure what the answer is but I haven't really given much thought to it.

I have a quick question:
I don't have a problem with installing a fresh copy of 3.5 especially seeing that the hacking community will be hard at work porting over everything.
I am concerned about a very customized style I have though. I am very proficient in coding though. Will 3.5 come with a nice set of instructions on which templates changed so I can add in the changes such as the AJAX stuff, Inline moderation, etc? I'm pretty sure I can figure most of it out -- just hoping something like this is included.

That has been the case, but I don't think so for this version. I think this is so because they appear to have been updating the files on this server directly from CVS after a few bug changes; so if this continues to hold true, the site here will be running beta code just from running "cvs update;" the only thing that will have to be changed is the version number and template changes.

Thats no different than any other release.
They'll update the site - even if it is via CVS - to the beta version before releasing it to us. As long as it says preview at the top and bottom, there is no release coming in the next hour.

To everybody, when I say soon that doesn't mean minutes or hours. It means within quite a short time. Which won't be a week or something like that, shorter. But who am I? Just support; if the developers need more time they will take that time. Nothing I can do about that. I am not even sure why people ask me :p But hey - I don't mind saying what I think might be possible: Soon .. and that still counts. I doubt it will be another week, and I am sure it won't be 5 minutes from now. But as I don't code the software it is just an assumption or a guess.
Sit tight, it will be sooner then you think, at least now you know it wasn't yesterday ---- one wrong answer closer to knowing when :)

Being that the lead developers are in the UK (where it's 3:20 am), and that they are likely on a somewhat normal schedule, I doubt it's going to be tonight.... but then again, we all know that some projects can take all night and be released when the sun is just rising.

Okay, I'll ask a question that makes sense...
The big selling point for me in 3.5 is the plugin system. My preference is to never install another hack again. If its not a plugin, I'm not installing it.
My current site is hacked 100 different ways to Sunday - and its a pain to upgrade. But since it is hacked, the database is far different than an unhacked board.
I'd like to start with a fresh copy of 3.5 instead of an upgrade to clean up the database. Will 3.5 (final, not beta) come with an 3.0.X importer? I sure hope so, otherwise, I'd have to upgrade and carry extra tables/fields that will have no use.

I'd like to start with a fresh copy of 3.5 instead of an upgrade to clean up the database. Will 3.5 (final, not beta) come with an 3.0.X importer? I sure hope so, otherwise, I'd have to upgrade and carry extra tables/fields that will have no use.
Yes.
There will be a 3.0.7 -> 3.5.0 and a 3.5.0 -> 3.5.0.

Dutch butchers never lie!

I knew one that lied about his weight.
He was 6ft 4 1/2 inches tall
He had size 12 shoes.
He had a 42 inch waste with a 40 inch inseam
His chest was 54 inches
What did he weigh?

Well what are we supposed to talk about in this thread? Not much we can discuss other than the release time because thats all that is on our minds.
You could discuss how to organize yourself to minimize this waste of time,
asking the same question over and over again? You could probably stop
spamming this thread so that for example my last question can be discovered
and answered by a vBulletin team member?

Will vB 3.5 be officially compatible with php5?
Considering it has MySQLi support, I would say yes.

I don't know. I am only here because I can't fight Malta Gunslingers in City of Heroes right now. The server I play on is down at the moment.

lightbox, its not spamming, I am just joining in on discussion. Your question was probably already answered but since you think its my fault it did not get answered, I will go back and find it, then post it up so they can answer it.
Will vB 3.5 Beta also be released immediately on www.vbulletin-germany.com (http://www.vbulletin-germany.com) ?

When is 2.3.0 coming out?
LoL, no offense, but your a bit of a n00b. It's 3.5.0 thats coming out, if there isn't already a 2.3.0 out, there wont be one. I think your stuck back in 2002 man, get with the times ( for those who don't know, it's actually the year 2005 )

Hopefully I see Wednesday at the latest. I think today they were just making final preparations.

Judging from the 3.5 Beta releases they had on vBulletin.org (they've since been hidden) I'd definitely say before the week is over. I thought for sure it'd be today, but maybe that was me thinking about the release of San Andreas for the PC... (Looks beautiful by the way)

Man go to sleep for 6 hours, get back up and people are starting to lose it. LOL I lost it thats why I went to bed. BTW, I must be silly thinking Wayne left a hint. I wish a dev would leave a hint but oh well. Does anyone know if 3.5 will have a style plugin system much like the hack plugin system? Just a question I was wondering about last night.
