I'm going to be doing a Computer Science course at the University this year. I was going to buy myself a powerbook with TigerOS. However, some people are telling me to go with a laptop instead (because powerbook isn't worth the price etc etc). I'm more inclined to go with a Powerbook but I need your opinions on this please. :)

Depends what is your CS related around? If its windows programming, you'd be daft to buy a Mac

The powerbook definitly wins, especially with 512mb ram! :)

This year's more theory than anything else. But we'll be starting on some java programming towards the end of the year I think.

If I didn't need the tablet functionality of my tablet PC, I would probably use a PowerBook. Better battery life, infinitely better OS, dream-like Wifi software support instead of Windows' thousands of clicks and no at-a-glance status, etc.

Most univerities use Linux/Unix servers for their C/C++ coding, and coding C/C++ under OS X is better than under Windows for ANSI-standard code.

You can always run Virtual PC if necessary on a PowerBook to emulate Windows for simple tasks.

I have a PowerBook with VirtualPC. Virtual PC is not speedy as a true Windoze box which I also have, but at least it let's you get the job done.
