Dunno if this is a real bug (might have been a fluke) but worth checking out:
I made one of my users admin, but his status didn't update. I tried it on several pc's, but it just kept saying 'Junior Member', until I activated custom status, and gave him one. Then I did see the new status
any thoughts?

btw, about the CP:
what's the need of replacement variables? There's already a 'style' link for changing stuff.

You know, replace "vBulletin SUCKS!!" with "vBulletin RULES!!" :)

I'll have a look at that Custom Status thing.
I've looked at the code - it should have updated when the user next posted, and would not have done so when you changed him to an administrator.
The styles link is basically a more user friendly for editing the replacement variables. If you want to do something fancy that cannot be done through the styles link, you would use the replacement variables directly.

John: a fusion of the two might be nice though, and it could be less confusing for some ;)

when an admin moderate's a couple of forums, his status becomes moderator
Better fix this buggy ;)

I'm running into this issue as well. Not sure it's a bug though, may just be a feature. It does look like User Groups are currently mutually exclusive so you can't be both an Administrator and a Forum Moderator. I have a number of administrators who also were assigned as forum moderators on our old UBB installation. If I assign my administrators to moderation duty they lose their administration capability. The only real issue I can think of is that people are used to seeing some of my administrator's names in the moderator's column of the old UBB main page. Now we have some forums with apparently no moderators and it's causing a bit of confusion.
Is it possible to take an Administrator or Super Moderator and assign them to a forum as a 'moderator' without them losing their current User Group privilege levels?

vBulletin decides who to list in the moderators column by this method: do they have 'adminedit' priviledges for this forum in particular. If you want to make an administrator a moderator too, create a new usergroup for the admin, with the administrator priviledges (ie. 'canadminedit'). Then, create a forum permission for this group, with the 'adminedit' property set to yes, for the forum that you want the admin to edit.
This method is quite tricky, which is why I have put the usergroups system up for review in the future.

Thank you John. Worked like a charm! Just to let you know we successfully transitioned a UBB message board with over 1,900 threads and 350,000 posts to vBulletin. It took most of the weekend, 7 hours to get our first 4 forums back online, another 9 hours for 2 more, and an additional 20 hours to get the last forum online. Although it sounds painful the transition went well and we are now in a much better position than just a week ago. We have head room once again for growth! We were stagnating with UBB and there was no upgrade path that we felt we could easily take. Thank you and Jelsoft Enterprises for developing such a great piece of software!

I set up a test board with myself as the only member. I then gave my name as the moderator for the one forum I have testing it out on. Now I don't have administrative abilities anymore. Any ideas on how to get this back, other than just deleting the whole program and starting all over again?

It may be easier to just do that if it is just a test forum. You have to be carefull when you set the admin as a moderator. It is much safer to create a user with access to the control panel that does not belong to the Administrator group, then there are no worries to get back in if necessary.
I am sure you can get in through the database by modifying most likely, but I do not know how to do that:)

Yeah, neither do I. My problem is that would be best because I have already made a lot of changes to the templates and I really don't want to have to go back in there and redo all the templates again.

You should at the least be able to export the table data and then reimport it back again on a new install right?
I am sure John or someone else probably knows how to regain the admin anyways.

Thanks for the input. I will see what John has to say on this.

The weird thing I had, was that even though my status said Moderatpr, I had Admin abilities.

I just deleted the whole thing and started all over again. I was able to save the template variables so I didn't loose that information.
Oh well. You live and learn.
