How do I change the color of ((( ONLY ))) the first column where the icons representing new/no new/locked forums appear? I want it to be different from 1st and 2nd alt talbe colors.

Open the 'forumbit' template and change '(firstaltcolor)' to what you want in this line:

<TD bgcolor="{firstaltcolor}" align=center valign=top><IMG SRC="images/$onoff.gif" BORDER=0></td>

how does one do per forum colour schemes ?

if you want a different color for each forum, you have to create custom templates for each forum and put the template names in the forum settings.

It's not as hard as it sounds.

thanks the question now is

1. which templates will i need to duplicate and edit ?
2. do i save these and upload them to the same directory as where other templates are ?
3. do i just type the name of the new template in the modify forum section ?

the "showthread" and "postbit" templates are the ones used to show the actual posts.
