I prefer board over both of them, but after that, I'd have to say forums.

lol...remembering all these discussions when I set up my corporate board.
What is it? It's a Forum.
What's in it? A bunch a forums.
A Forum with forums? Yes. Well, it's actually Bulletin Board with forums but nobody calls it that.
But we're calling it a Forum? Yes.
Capital 'F'? Umm, yeah, sure.
Unless we're talking about the forums? Now you got it!
for what it's worth, our domain is ...forum.com, but I would like to own both to prevent squatters.

Here's how I think of it:
It is a Community or Message Board (vBulletin Community), which contains one or more
Forums (Chit-Chat forum, Troubleshooting forum, etc.), which contain
Threads, (How do I find the Any key?), which contain
Posts. ("To find the Any key, start by looking at your keyboard...")

Here's how I think of it:
Yeah. On our main page it's called "... Online Community", but no one ever says that or writes it that way. It's always Forum.
Now then...is it 'skin', 'style', or 'theme'? :p

It's a style. ;)
I prefer forums, just because calling a message board containing many forums a forum just lacks any sort of logic in my opinion.

Yes, and why I prefer the URL to be...
http://www.yoursite.com/community/
Than....
http://www.yoursite.com/forums/
Community also is a more inviting word. It means inclusion, not warring factions in distinct camps treating the site like a Roman forum from the empire days (with all the political intrique and backbiting to go with it).
It also will eliminate the confusion of using singular or plural usage of a word -- e.g., "We here at this forum" [Which one? Site has 10 forums]. Using the word community means the entire site and everyone included.

Forum. It's not plural when you use the title. Such as - KEYWORD Forum has such and such listed on it. Who says that anyway? I just use the title of mine in phone conversations and everyday chat.

Well, if you will be having multiple boards I would use forums, if you will be using one board use forum. For protection of the name however you may wish to register both names.

I own both names. I am deciding on which one to use for the main domain.
I am looking into factors like SEO and backlinking anchor text.
Anyone knows more about singular and plural in keyword stemming of major search engines.
Which one will do better in search engines? Wordtracker reported the same amount of searches for both s and w/o s.
Also, some people will naturally link to you using the words in your domain name.

Forums
While it is a forum for discussions, it is made up of more than one forum. Forums makes more sense to me.

Personnally, I buy:
http://yoursite.com/
Then I create permanent redirections:
http://forum.yoursite.com/
http://forums.yoursite.com/
http://community.yoursite.com/
They all redirect to the same.
And because I'm in a French community, I choosed "forums" as the default. But in English, I do not know if the logic is the same.
