I have a PIII 650 with 256MB Ram.
anyway....
I have seen a number of ocassions with a very high load, say 10 to 20 but the processor up to 60% idle. What does this mean? i need more ram?

It looks like you need more RAM. I am not entirely sure which is more important RAM or CPU but my personal feeling is that RAM is the bottleneck on MYSQL/PHP apps

interesting... next server i will go for high ram. Ram is expensive at dialtoneinetner as you pay monthly on it, getting a huge amount of ram at venturesonline seems the way to go as it is much cheaper to do.

I haven't implemented VB fully yet (I'm awaiting the final release) anyways I am with dialtone and I went for half a gig of ram rather than upgrade the entire server from a p2400 to a p3 800
I hope it's the right choice

i'd have a read of this thread from my sig for mysql.com's optimisation tips http://www.mysql.com/information/presentations/presentation-oscon2000-20000719/index.html
basically the order is, ram, faster disks, and then cpu power
but that can change depending on other sites/applications you use in conjunction with mysql/vB
Chris how's Imagefolio pro holding up ? i upgraded to pro as well for my new version of eva2000.com which should be ready in 1 - 2 weeks.
thinking of using mod_perl but not sure

it is going fine, my server load is really quite high though considering the very few amount of people i have using the site at one point though so i can't really tell you yet.
